Steve Claridge has backed Albion to stay in the Championship play-off zone.

The 1-0 win against in-form Birmingham at The Amex has lifted Oscar Garcia's side to sixth in the table.

Former Seagulls loan signing Claridge, speaking on the BBC's Football League Show, said: "I think they can (stay in the top six).

"We know they have got fantastic quality and a good squad. He (Oscar) has inherited a marevllous squad, a successful squad as well.

"They went very close last year, so they know what it takes at this level. I don't see any reason why they can't get that play-off spot again.

"They have fantastic support as well. It's looking good down there."

Meanwhile, Claridge believes the move of Albion striker Ashley Barnes to Burnley is an indication of the Lancastrian's credentials to remain in an automatic promotion place.

He said: "You can't have too many quality players and it will re-enforce the notion that they can go all the way. It will certainly have a really positive effect in that dressing room."
