Harry Finch admits he is bursting with excitment after being in named in the England squad for the Under-19 World Cup next month.

The Sussex all-rounder was included in a 15-strong party for the tournament in the Abu Dhabi and Dubai yesterday after impressing with the ball in a tri-series competition against hosts the UAE and Pakistan in December.

Finch said: “I bowled quite well in the tri-series before Christmas so I was hopeful of making the squad but you never know until it is confirmed.

“I got the call at the weekend and I’ve been buzzing ever since. To get the chance to represent your country at a World Cup is an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait to get over there and get started.”

Finch will fly to the UAE with the rest of the England squad on January 31 ahead of practise matches against Scotland and Bangladesh plus another opponent who have yet to be confirmed.

England begin their World Cup campaign against UAE in Abu Dhabi on February 14 – four days after Finch’s 19th birthday – followed by two more group matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Dubai.
