Crawley chief scout Martin Hinshelwood is set to be reunited with former Reds boss Richie Barker at Portsmouth.

Hinshelwood is currently serving his notice at Crawley before taking over as head scout at Fratton Park next week.

The 60-year-old joined Crawley shortly after Barker’s appointment as manager in August 2012 after a 14-year spell as coach, manager and director of football at Albion came to an abrupt end.

He was made caretaker manager together with striker Gary Alexander for one game when Barker was sacked at the end of November – a 1-0 defeat at Crewe – before returning to a backroom role following the arrival of John Gregory as manager.

Hinshelwood previously spent three years coaching the under-18s and under-21s at Portsmouth between 1994 and 1997 before rejoining the Seagulls, while his son Danny made six appearances for Pompey.

His move to the League Two side means all of Barker’s backroom staff have made the switch to Fratton Park since his surprise sacking at Crawley and swift appointment at Portsmouth five weeks ago.

Former Crawley director of football Steve Coppell went with Barker to take over a similar role at Pompey while ex-Reds assistant manager Anthony Williams is now Barker’s No.2. Guy Whittingham has moved in the other direction with the former Portsmouth boss now Gregory’s first team coach at Crawley.
