Albion face fresh competition in their bid to sign Lewis Grabban - from Bournemouth.
The Seagulls' £1.1 million transfer target is back with his parent club after failing so far to agree personal terms on a switch along the South Coast.
Grabban is not expected to feature in Bournemouth's home game against Watford today but the Cherries have not given up hope of keeping him.
They were resigned to losing him when Albion lodged their bid on Wednesday evening, triggering a clause in his contract permitting him to speak to another club.
The protracted negotiations after the Seagulls opened talks at lunchtime on Thursday have encouraged Bournemouth to believe they could yet hold onto their top scorer.
