Grabban back at Bournemouth

Lewis Grabban's future remains unclear

Lewis Grabban's future remains unclear

First published in Sport by , Chief sports reporter

Albion face fresh competition in their bid to sign Lewis Grabban - from Bournemouth.

The Seagulls' £1.1 million transfer target is back with his parent club after failing so far to agree personal terms on a switch along the South Coast.

Grabban is not expected to feature in Bournemouth's home game against Watford today but the Cherries have not given up hope of keeping him.

They were resigned to losing him when Albion lodged their bid on Wednesday evening, triggering a clause in his contract permitting him to speak to another club.

The protracted negotiations after the Seagulls opened talks at lunchtime on Thursday have encouraged Bournemouth to believe they could yet hold onto their top scorer.

Seems to revolve around our preparedness to offer more than 2 years contract currently on the table.

Bridcutt not travelled with the squad to Derby? Must be odds-on a move to Sunderland. Buckley too?

It seems rebuilding in the Oscar style is being forced on us more quickly than we might have hoped.

I wouldn't bother with him as having read the Bournemouth comments about him (which may be deliberately misleading) it does seem that there are severe doubts about his ability. Anyway he would probably have to wait for a starting place as I can't see Oscar playing 2 strikers (unless he was going to be played on the wing) and also CMS is likely to be available soon. Lita didn't even get a look in even when Ulloa was injured!

However, we clearly need to add to the squad in this transfer window as the squad is looking much weaker than it did this time last week.

I think that his deal will not happen and comments above seem to have the same view. His agent probaby thinks there is a better offer around. I think Mason is a better prospect as he has had a lot of success in the championship. The only fear I have is that Malky did not think he could hack it in the Premiership. Tend to agree that Liam may be on the way to the North East. If that is true we may need an experienced playmaker to support Ince.

My brother said that he was getting, 'bored,' with the Grabban deal, have to say I am totally done with it.
I think we can now forget about Grabban, it's time to look abroad as I am sure that the FFP, to some degree, is a road block when trying to sign what appear to be good players. Clubs and players alike all know of our needs and I am sure that this is pushing up the demands for their services.

Cracking game on skysports... Leeds v Leicester.

Interesting that both are set up 4-4-2 and that both teams have quick, skillful wingers on BOTH flanks.

My point... I think Buckley & Lua Lua and Ulloa & CMS are better than both Leeds and Leicesters players in those positions.
With a fit squad we really are up there with the best of them.... It'll probably never happen but imho I would be so excited by a line containing all 4 of our lads that I mention above.

Phew! That was close. Well done to bournemouth for saving us from Grabban. Just strange we were ever in for him in the first place. He's at bournemeouth for a reason. Seven crap clubs already, 26 years old, average player, average club. I hope next time we make a move we are a bit more adventurous. And, who knows, maybe we will even see an Oscar choice.

yep it is a good game, I am watching it over here, flipped channels just in time to see Sunderland go one goal down. McCormack should have scored, one on one with the keeper and fluffed it.

Grabbin is not a £1.1 player, no chance. I am completely indifferent to this story as you can see from my miss spelling of the players name. Ulloa was £2m and it would be an insult to mention the players in the same breath. If we have £1m+ to spend, I'm sure we can find a vastly superior player in Spain. Time for Oscar to get his phone book out I think.

Nice. Usually AFCB fans suggest we are up each others.
We aren't big headed, but Grabban is not seen as all that exciting and Bournemouth is seen as a smaller club. If he has interest from Forest, Leicester and QPR then we would not be surprised if he went to one of those, would show ambition to play at a higher level is not his prime motivator if he stayed at Bournemouth though.

Why does it show ambition to play at a higher level. You're in same league as us and are certainly no better.
In my opinion this is the highest level he could play at. Anyway he has decided to stay with us. So he must have thought the same.
