El-Abd backs Albion to make play-offs

The Argus: Adam El-Abd Adam El-Abd

Adam El-Abd has predicted Albion will make the Championship play-offs again.

And he has hailed the cosmopolitan mix in the dressing room as the best he has been involved in.

El-Abd played a key role after Christmas last season, deputising for a chunk of games when captain Gordon Greer was injured.

History will not repeat itself from a personal perspective this season following the long-serving central defender’s move to League One strugglers Bristol City last week in search of regular football.

But El-Abd believes another top six finish is plausible for the Seagulls without him.

He told The Argus: “I am sure they will get into the play-offs and you never know, with a little bit of luck, maybe beyond that.

“It’s been the best dressing room I have ever been involved in. I love every single one of the lads in there and that is a real sad point for me because I don’t think I will get a dressing room like that again."

Shame we don't have more like him - easily made up for any lack of ultimate ability with an absolute commitment to the Albion. Will be missed but you can't argue with him wanting to play regularly.

CJN - not quite sure what you mean by ultimate ability. If you mean he isn't the most talented player in the world I agree but you get what it says on the tin.
100% commitment and more. A true Albion legend.
We should start the campaign to get his legends banner outside the West Stand.
He deserves it and a testimonial as well.
If you want an example for any young player to look up to, Adam's your man. UTA

Unless he's Llama or an octopus his predictions aren't worth a lot though.

I'd rather the Argus asked that llama who has a good track record on football predictions. Doesn't he live in Sussex? If so perhaps the Argus could ask him.

Have to say that I honestly thought we would hear about some transfer action today, Crofts didn't get injured yesterday, El-Abd went last week and would seem one of the easier ones to replace.
Replacing Crofts and finding the right striker, if we are looking for one, are more of a challenge. Perhaps some will occur tomorrow, it's 6pm your time so I doubt we will hear anything now as far as today goes.

Good to see that someone who was connected to the club for many years still feels we can achieve the objective of reaching the play-offs.
Time will obviously tell but to do so I think at least one of two things have to happen if not both.
Firstly we need our regular stream of injuries to stop happening.
Secondly we need as far as is possible to replace those players who have left or, as in Croft's case, are out for the season. We also need to get in a creative midfielder to provide clear cut chances. More specifically a striker, a midfielder, a CB should be the minimum number of target signings. I don't think more than one will happen and anticipate that the club will (probably) wait until the loan window reopens to get players in.
My main concern is that Burke doesn't appear to be the sort of person who can 'sell' the club like Poyet did. I don't see Oscar is either but then that is not his role or where his strengths lie.
No doubt much will be revealed in the next 10 days.

How refreshing to hear a footballer leaving a club and still show loyalty towards it. What an absolute gent Adam is, so dignified. All the best to him.
