MEET Sarah Pick – a North Yorkshire farmer aiming to help change the image of argriculture.

Sarah, 25, from Tadcaster, has made the final in the search for Britain’s Sexiest Farmer, a competition jusged by Gok Wan and led by Farmers Weekly magazine to encourage young people to think of it as a career.

The magazine said it wants to dispel the myth that “farmers are old-fashioned and scruffy and to encourage more young people to consider careers in this exciting, innovative and high tech sector.”

Askham Bryan College employee Sarah is among the final ten – which is made up of five men and five women.

She said: “You have to take it in good humour. The main thing I’m trying to do is promote farming as something young people can go into as a career. I don’t think people realise how many career options there are.

“I’m hoping with being the only person from Yorkshire that I’ll get the Yorkshire vote and I might have a good chance.”

Sarah is doing a masters degree in sustainable agriculture in her spare time and helps out on the family farm with the pedigree Simmental cattle.

Her sister Fran, who nominated her, said: “She has a radiant smile that brightens up the darkest winter days and deep brown eyes that would melt any farmer’s heart. She is an active member of Selby Young Farmers’ Club and takes part in every activity from stock judging to partying at the AGM. Her bright and bubbly personality radiates whether in her gladrags or gumboots.”

The search for Britain’s Sexiest Farmer has attracted more than 300 entries from across England.

Ten shortlisted finalists aged between and 18 and 53, come from Sussex, Somerset, Kent, Dorset, Yorkshire, Cornwall, Hampshire, Norfolk and Wiltshire.

Fashion expert, TV presenter and how-to-look-good guru Gok Wan, who’s been helping the judges, said: “Country guys clearly have a rugged charm and so many of the ladies were positively beautiful.

"The shortlist of ten are all fantastically sexy (I’d gladly accept an invite to any of their farms!) They’re all really different with their own great stories. With farmers like this, the countryside is definitely in safe hands.”

Voting closes on Friday.
