Albion fans have been told they have been given glimpses of what their club’s new signing can do.

Jeffrey Monakana, 20, enjoyed a lively introduction to life with the Seagulls when he helped the development squad beat Eastbourne Borough 1-0 in the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday.

The game was attended by about 300 fans at Culver Road and attracted a similar audience watching live on Youtube.

Monakana, signed recently on a development contract until the end of next season, produced a few tricky runs on both wings and went close to scoring.

Development coach Simon Ireland said: “It is always going to be difficult because he has not had that much time on the training pitch.

“He is used to playing in a 4-4-2 formation and we play in a 4-4-3.

“But I think he showed glimpses of what he is about.

“It is now for us to work on his game and his understanding, probably a little bit of fitness as well because I don’t think he has played much recently.

“There are certainly bits there that please the eye and I look forward to working with him over the forthcoming weeks.”

Read Jeffrey Monakana on his latest big decision - and Simon Ireland's assessment of why Albion's system will suit him - in The Argus tomorrow.

4-4-3? Does that mean we play 3 forwards in the DS.
I thought all teams at the Albion played the same formations to ease movement between different levels.

No wonder we won if we had 12 players.

4-3-3, which is as the first team, although it's more like 4-1-2-2-1.

Maybe we don't bother with goalkeeper in the DS squad !
Pleased for the lad, a couple of good years ahead of him in the DS, then Mr Burke can sell on for a handsome profit while the first team jog along in the championship. !
What's wrong with giving these lads a chance, after all Rohan Ince has taken his and this lad has played ore first team football albeit in league 1.

As the goalkeeper is normally excluded from the formation pattern, I.e. 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 etc, my only explanation is that the Development Squad play with 12 players! No wonder we always win the Sussex Senior Cup!!!

"Same old DS, always cheating" etc etc.

:-D

“It is now for us to work on his game and his understanding, probably a little bit of fitness as well because I don’t think he has played much recently." Judging by the photo it appears young Jeremy has been at the pies a bit.

Let him at least settle in
OG has played Ince,JFC,March & Chicksen
He is certainly more willing to play the youngsters than Gus was

I watched the match online and to be honest, I didn't see that we had three up front for much of the game, Eastbourne pressed throughout the game and a lot of our good work was done out wide but I guess two wide players and Dickensen as the target man could be seen as playing three up front.

With those blue 'catering' gloves on, he could well have been making the pies in the first place...
