Transfer window watch: Albion defender completes Scottish switch

The Argus: Vitalijs Maksimenko Vitalijs Maksimenko

Albion's development squad defender Vitalijs Maksimenko has completed his loan move to Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock for the rest of the season.

The versatile 23-year-old Latvian international is likely to make his debut against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Rugby Park tomorrow, subject to Kilmarnock securing international clearance in time.

Maksimenko becomes the fifth player to leave Albion during the January transfer window following the sales of Ashley Barnes (Burnley), Adam El-Abd (Bristol City) and George Barker (Swindon) and Shamir Goodwin's loan move to Torquay.

The Seagulls have so far signed striker Jonathan Obika from Spurs as a loan replacement for Leroy Lita, who returned to Swansea on January 1, and winger Jeffrey Monakana from Preston on a development contract.

A good move for the boy, he will come back a man with plenty of experience.

I know many are concerned with the fact that more players are going out than coming in, but I believe that the pieces of the jigsaw are carefully being moved around to eventually complete the beautiful final picture.

Not unexpected. I think Maksimenko will benefit from (hopefully) playing regular first team football at a higher standard than the DS. Should set him up well for next season.
I notice that the Argus says Maksimenko is the 4th departure this Transfer Window so I guess that Shamir Goodwin's Loan to Torquay doesn't count since he is only a member of the DS. If that is the criteria then Monakana shouldn't really be seen as an acquisition although clearly he is one. Our other new recruit Obita is in a sense a replacement for a 6th departure namely Lita.
Still waiting to hear about a striker replacement for Barnes, a midfielder for Crofts, a defender for El-Abd (MK Dons Williams ?) and whether we can get Conway back. As I posted yesterday more outgoing activity than incoming. Lets trust that tise trend changes in the next 7 days.
