Albion talking point: What now for shining Solly?

The Argus: Solly March is mobbed after scoring (photo Simon Dack) Solly March is mobbed after scoring (photo Simon Dack)

Solly March scored his first senior goal as Albion won at Port Vale yesterday.

The young winger has been lively in both the Seagulls’ FA Cup ties so far this season.

But he has yet to really shine in very limited league appearances.

So what now for March? Would you like to see more of him in the league?

Are these FA Cup outings enough for now? Or should he be sent out on loan to gain experience?

And where does he stand when Will Buckley returns from injury?

We’d love to know what you think.

March is developing nicely, and will continue to do so. He will get more game time when KLL and WB are injured. One for the future.

Yes, let's not put too much pressure on young talent. Solly now needs to prove his consistency, skill and reliability in each chance he gets on the pitch.

Keep him in the squad and give him ever increasing game time. He is a great talent, we saw that from the Norwich game pre season and have had to wait a long time for him to get a chance. Now he has proved his value, keep him and alternate him with Buckley & Lua Lua as they have proven injury records. Neither of them will play the rest of the season without picking up injuries, so Solly should get plenty of more opportunities.

He is a fine prospect and starts a game well.
He needs to be used more to support KLL and WB If we do lose a winger he is rapidly developing into an able replacement. Like Ince he is a very exciing prospect.
I hope he is not loaned out and stays in the match day squad.
A few more croses like that would be great!

If LuaLua and Buckley stay fit and with the club, he will be on the bench, but with the fitness issues of these two he will get game time, if Buckley was to go, Solly has it in him to make that step up imo.
Looking at how we are progressing with our youngsters, I have total faith in the top people at the club that we are going in the right direction, a young keeper that is good enough to be invited to the England training camp, Dunk, Maksi and Chicksen as defenders, Jfc, Ince and March, and Jeff Monakana could be next, include Buckley and LuaLua in that group of youngsters and the future looks pretty good to me. Okay, so we were up against a League One side. But the fact is, with so many changes and young players on show, it was really heartening to see the confidence, the switching of play, and the space finding, which gave a huge edge to our play.

Dunk was relishing the opportunity to squeeze into contention, and will be adding to the team choices that Oscar has to make with his cultured performance.

All the fuss over the goal from March is hardly necessary. The ball was not exactly mishit, and the result was in keeping with our overall grip on the match anyway. I would like to see him in the side a lot more now, because his confidence will have been greatly boosted by this showing.

This has to be one of the very few occasions when Albion have benefited so much from making so many changes to a side. The future for our youth looks very rosy indeed.

Solly is a good prospect and at this stage of his development I would like to see him get more game time against decent opposition. If that is not possible due to having messrs Buckley, Lua Lua, Orlandi, David and perhaps Conway in front of him I would like him to go out on loan to a club with the same playing philosophy as we have. He needs to be playing regularly.

Quite often we see a lot of contradiction within the comments on this forum, self contradiction that is.

We have people saying that Solly, Ince, Chicksen and JFC, are good players and should be given league match time, but those same people call for quality signings, and surely quality signings would hamper the chances of the young lads getting league match time.

Bridcutt is going so we must replace him, well were not many on here saying that Ince is his replacement?
It will be great when Lua Lua and Buckley are both fit for selection, we should get Conway back, so that's the end of game time for Solly.
Hoskins is returning to full fitness and for many on here was thought to be showing some real class before his injury, CMS is also nearing being fit, Ulloa is King, Obika is on loan, but we must sign a quality striker, so what happens to Hoskins and CMS.
El-Abd, third choice center back, has gone so we must sign a quality center back to replace him, Greer and Upson are doing what wrong? Isn't this a chance to give young Mr. Dunk more playing time, and perhaps sign another young CB prospect? Is the DS devoid of young CB's?

Crofts injury has brought about a real need to sign a quality player and we should do so as soon as possible, but as for all the other calls for quality, I just don't see a great need.

I agree with vegas regarding new signings; don't need anyone as our youngters and loan players can cover. I think I would use Augustien, Andres or Jfc in Crofts role. The wingers pick themselves unless Buckley goes and then bring Conway in. Strikers are not a problem now CMS and Hoskins are due back. Lets play with the players we have, get through the season and hopefully have a playoff finish. We are sitting 8th with a game in hand so a win at Burnley is needed. I don't mind a loss or 2 if we play well but for me we need to use the youngsters.

I am not saying that we don't need anyone, I would like to see Crofts replaced with a quality player, and maybe sign a young, 20-21 years of age, DS level CB that could be fourth choice.

Good post Frataomrover , hopefully March will get more game time with us at Champioship level.
Glad to see the youngsters performing well. Oscar is certainly giving the likes of Ince, March, Chicksen and JFC plenty of opportunities and they are rewarding his faith in them. Oscar is also demonstrating that he works well with young players.
Changing subject disappointed to see on another thread that we have yet again failed to persuade a signing target to join us - this time Shaun Williams of MK Dons. As Neville said on that thread not entirely surprising. As another poster said where is our 'persuader' to convince players to join ? I don't think that it's quite Oscar's strength or role. It really is down to Burke and his team .The spotlight is really on them and we will know exactly how capable they are at delivering what Oscar needs in 6 days time. Much of course might depend on what happens with Bridcutt and Buckley.
I am not confident that we will sign any more players in the window and feel we are more likely to get players in on loan when the loan window reopens in February when loans can only be for a maximum of 93 days. Such a strategy might provide more funds for strengthening the squad in the summer so one can see why it might appeal.
In the meantime lets hope the youngsters continue to perform as they did yesterday.

We still have the depth to challenge for a play off place.
Keep the money until the summer for a few big signings.

Very fair point. The people that come on here that think they can run the club better than TB make me laugh. When they have the odd 100m to spare then come in and do better. Often wonder if those that moan went to Hereford for the must win game or followed the team to Gillingham. Think we all know the answer to that one.

Zaha is thought to be going to Cardiff for the rest of the season, which could be the cue for them to let Conway go. If he comes back, and Buckley does not move on then Solly should look for a loan into a League 1 side.
Trotter from Millwall has been mentioned many times by various posters, now would be a good time to get him as a replacement for Crofts, he is out of contract in the summer so we may be able to do a good value deal.
