Albion's striker target David Rodriguez is on the brink of completing a free transfer move from Spain for the rest of the season.

Head coach Oscar Garcia, speaking at the training ground this morning, confirmed the impending capture of the forward from Celta Vigo.

Oscar said: "He's having a medical and maybe he can start training with us today."

An official announcement is expected at lunchtime.

Rodriguez, 27, cancelled his contract with Celta Vigo, which was due to expire in the summer.

Oscar wants more signings before the 11pm deadline to bolster a squad depleted by sales and injury.

He said: "I hope to have a busy day."

Craig Conway will not be rejoining Albion on loan from Cardiff.

The Scottish international winger is poised to complete a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers and could be playing against the Seagulls next month.

Meanwhile, Will Buckley, linked with a move to Sunderland or Crystal Palace, was at Albion's training ground today for further monitoring of the hamstring injured which has ruled him out since December 29.

Oscar confirmed Buckley will not be available for Sunday's visit to his old club Watford.

Sounds like a good signing. He's consistently averaged a goal in less than every 3 games throughout his career. Good age too. Hopefully should hit the ground running.

Shame about Conway, especially to lose him to Blackburn who are so massively in debt that they can't possibly afford him without getting into even deeper trouble with Financial Fair Play. Silly move for Conway to go to a club who will have a transfer embargo/fines for breaching FFP.

I think MBTS has it about right. Forest started with 2 forwards last night and brought on 3 forwards as subs - Darius Henderson, Simon Cox and Jamie Mackie - who all scored. That's what you call attacking strength in depth - and they are rumoured to be signing Danny Graham today - and others. They appear to be taking a massive financial gamble.

He who dares wins - or he who dares ends up with points deductions transfer bans and points deductions? I am happy for us to be sensible for the time being and seeing how it all pans out. Assume we will still have some money in the kitty for the summer.

Seeing as we've had £4m from the sale of Bridcutt, Barnes, El-Abd and Barker, and only spent ½m on Stephens, and should be getting Rodriguez on a free, by my reckoning we are 3½m to the good at the moment. Add to that profits from the cup run, and we should have at least £4m in the kitty for summer signings. I really hope we hold onto Will Buckley because, his speed and skill is top class.

The whole infrastructure of the club is getting stronger and stronger, and augers well for next season - when I expect us to make a serious assault on the top 2 positions - that is if we haven't already scraped into the Premier via the play-offs!

All the doom and gloom merchants on here over the last couple of weeks should have the 'other half of their glass full' by tonight.
Looks as though W.B. will be staying.
Pity we didn't get Craig Conway, but if Blackburn offered better terms, and it is halfway back to Scotland, then you can't blame the guy.
On MBTS topic of play off places, it is looking more like there might only be one place to compete for, as Foxes and QPR look strong for 1st and 2nd spot and Burnley, Forest and Derby look less and less likely to have a 'wobble'.

As others have said ,it would be good to hold onto Bucks ,i would love to see him throw himself back into our Great club ,and forget S,land or Croydon ,he is imo the type of player ,when at his best ,can single handedly win us another 8-10 points by the end of the season ,turning a couple of draws into wins ,and defeats into draws ,very cliche` but i realy think he is that good .
And he must have thought we were that good ,to have extended his contract to 2017 ,so come on Will ,stop this silliness and commit to The Albion ,and help us get to the Prem this season .
I`m meeting a good mate later ,who is Charlton to the bone ,so after taking some jip ,i`ll find out just how good Dale is ,someone on the rumours page ,described him as their best player, even above Yan Kermogant ,so we have done well ,the Spanish lad should walk straight into our set up ,and please Oscar ,play him with Leo ,even if he plays on the left side ,any other incoming signings will be a great bonus ,i would like nothing more than to ,have to take back some of my negative comments about B&B .

I do wonder why we appear to be only doing a deal for this lad until the end of the season, if he is the striker that some think he is, then surely a longer contract would have been better for all concerned.
I can only assume that he is seen as cover for Ulloa and nothing more, so maybe not one to get too excited about.

Vegas, think this guy will have to proove his worth, i dare say that we have an option to take him up on a longer contract if he works out which is good in a way as he will have to give it some to get the contract exstension rather than signing for a couple of years and just warming the bench, a win win situation for us!

Agree. And makes far more sense, in our situation, than buying Grabban or Mason, IMO.

Yes I can see the logic in your thinking BG, and the fact that he has come on a free but only a short term deal, might suggest that we have not had to hand out too big a 'hello,' payment to him.
He has not played a lot of football so far this season, and he now faces the British way of playing, for these reasons I don't expect that he will have a great impact right from the get go.

Never mind, Dave, mistakes can happen.

I still think Burnley will slip down. Possible play-off contenders but I reckon it'll finish: Leicester QPR Forest Derby Albion Reading ------------- Middlesbrough Burnley Ipswich Blackburn
That's a big forecast Captain........I'd lke to see the odds on getting all those right. It might be worth a small punt.
