Transfer window watch (updated): Alexander leaves Crawley
Gary Alexander has left Crawley Town to join League Two promotion chasers Burton Albion.
The Brewers have confirmed the permanent signing of the 34-year-old subject to the necessary paperwork being completed.
It is the third year running Alexander has switched clubs on deadline day having joined Reds from Brentford two years ago and then moved to AFC Wimbledon in 2013.
Alexander scored 17 goals for Reds in 73 games - including five in 26 appearances this season - but had been largely used as a substitute this season.
The former Millwall forward's contract was due to expire in the summer and was unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Burton manager Gary Rowett said: “Gary is a great addition for us, he is maybe something we’re missing at the moment.
“He is a target man and someone who has a lot of experience playing at this level. Gary will bring an aerial threat to the squad that maybe we have been missing when (Michael) Symes has been out injured.
“He is proven at this level and knows what this league is all about.”
Reds have targeted Halifax striker Lee Gregory as a possible replacement for Alexander.
The club have had two bids for the 25-year-old turned down by the Conference outfit but remain hopeful of completing a deal before the 11pm deadline.
