Transfer window watch (updated): Crawley winger joins Rotherham

The Argus: Nicky Adams is understood to have joined Rotherham Nicky Adams is understood to have joined Rotherham

Crawley winger Nicky Adams has joined League One rivals Rotherham United.

The fee is believed to be £95,000 with Adams agreeing a two-and-a-half year deal.

Adams came close to joining Rotherham back in November only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and was unlikely to sign a new deal as his wife and children still live in Bolton.

Adams joined Reds from Rochdale on a free transfer in June 2012 and has scored 14 goals in 82 appearances for the club.

He is the second player to have left Crawley on deadline day following striker Gary Alexander's move to Burton Albion.

Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford said: “Nicky’s contract expires at the end of the season when he could have left the club for nothing.

“He expressed a desire to move back up north to be with his wife and young family and that has been a big factor in us giving him permission to talk to Rotherham and him deciding to go there.

“We’re disappointed because Nicky has been a good player for us during his time here but we wish him all the best.

“So we move on and John Gregory will continue to work hard today and when the loan window opens to strengthen the squad if he feels it’s necessary.”
