Crawley have made their first signing of transfer deadline day by snapping up Derby goalkeeper Ross Atkins on a month’s loan.
The 24-year-old has been signed as cover because Johnny Maddison is suffering from suspected appendicitis.
Atkins has been with Derby since 2008 but has only made one first-team appearance, which was a Championship match away to Reading in May 2011. He has also spent time on loan to Southport, Burton, Kidderminster and Tamworth.
This season he has played 23 games on loan to Conference premier club Alfreton Town.
Manager John Gregory said: “We are not sure what the problem is with Johnny at the moment and obviously goalkeeper is a critical position where we need experienced cover. I’m grateful to Steve McClaren for allowing us to bring Ross to the club.”
