Albion have knocked back an audacious attempt by Peterborough to re-sign Craig Mackail-Smith.

The League Once club wanted to borrow the striker to assist his recovery from injury but were given short shrift by the Seagulls.

Mackail-Smith made a 24-minute comeback from ten months out with a ruptured Achilles and broken ankle in the development team at Brentford on Monday.

He scored 99 goals in four-and-a-half years at Peterborough before joining Albion in July 2011 for a £2.5 million fee rising to a potential £3.25 million.

Mackail-Smith, 29, has scored 21 times in 81 outings for Albion but has not played since suffering the Achilles injury at Bristol City last March.

He is likely to have another run-out for the under-21s against Crystal Palace at Lancing on Monday night (7pm).
