TOMASZ Kuszczak has saluted the contribution of Gordon Greer this season following a costly error by the Albion captain at Watford.

The Seagulls were 1-0 down in the second half at Watford yesterday when Greer’s attempted backpass to keeper Kuszczak fell short.

Fernando Forestieri pounced on the mistake to seal a 2-0 defeat for Oscar Garcia’s below-par side.

Kuszczak told The Argus: “The defensive line – Matty Upson, GG, Bruno and Wardy – is very good this season.

“There have been so many games where they have been fantastic and so many games where I didn’t have anything to do.

“Individual mistakes happen and GG’s wasn’t massive. We didn’t perform. There was still enough time to score a few goals and change the result. You don’t want to make mistakes but it happens to me, it happens to everyone.”

Kuszczak acknowledged that Albion’s passing style, introduced by former boss Gus Poyet and continued by head coach Oscar, makes them occasionally vulnerable.

He said: “We try to play from the back. We don’t just kick it when danger comes, we try to play out and pass the ball. Obviously, in so many games and so many situations this kind of mistake can happen and it may cost something or it may not.

“It cost us a goal this time but over 46 games in a season something is always going to happen to everyone - you have to accept that. GG is our captain, he’s a good defender, always motivated and always has a good, positive attitude.”
