The Argus: Craig Mackail-Smith steps up his comeback at Lancing tonight Craig Mackail-Smith steps up his comeback at Lancing tonight

Craig Mackail-Smith is a confirmed starter for Albion's development team at Lancing tonight as he steps up his recovery from ten months on the sidelines.

The match against arch-rivals Crystal Palace at Culver Road (7pm) will be Mackail-Smith's first run-out on home soil since suffering Achilles and ankle injuries.

The 29-year-old striker made a 24-minute comeback in the development team at Brentford last week.

Would be good to have CMS back for Leeds, they hate playing against him. Murray could be in the Palace squad for this one.

Get over Gus he's gone now!! -- always remember Gus does whats right for Gus -- it included getting us to the point where it was time to go for him and he will not give a second thought to what he leaves behind. This season is all above rebuilding and getting it right for next season after what it has cost the club to run with the Gus dream, thats why we are having to be careful with money and plan properly -- its called taking care of the club you love and making sure it has a long term future and not just next season

Good luck tonight Craig... its good to see you playing again and I'm looking forward to seeing you back in the first team squad in the not to distant future.

Seems obvious that OG has no intention of changing the system that we play and so my personal hope is that he will see that we are toothless and at least give us some pace in the final third this coming Saturday.

Hopefully Buckley will be back to take his place on the right wing but if not then I hope to see Solly get a start.
Id really like to see Kaz in the middle too and possibly Rod on the left side of the 3 just behind Ulloa... Lots of pace all round and a real reason for the Doncaster boys not to push up against us.

Ince will hopefully be back to play alongside Stephens just behind the 3 mentioned above.

I reckon this would be a pretty adventurous set up while giving solidity to.

All the best to Craig, and hopefully Will Hoskins soon.

CMS may have a very mediocre record at goals per Championship game started, but no one closes defenders down like him. The time off will hopefully have made him hungry for goals.

Every team needs such a pairing for succes. With these two up front and given the support our lay-off place can still be assured, otherwise forget it.

CMS AND Ulloa??? You must be joking!

As Claude Back said in an earlier post on another thread, ""Garcia has said openly yesterday that he will not play two up front so we are stuck with just Ulloa up there who will leave in the summer because he is so unhappy with the support he receives. To play the lone striker you need mid-fielders running beyond Ulloa . At Watford OG played a defensive midfield which was bound to fail in that respect. Directly we saw JFC in the team and not Ince it was obvious. We never got behind Watford or turned their three Centre Backs who only had to mark one player, Ulloa., How could Leo do anything? He had nobody to pass to and that has been the way for ages now. Garcia is costing us points because of his obstinacy and failure to adapt."

We need goals, Ulloa can score them given the chances, question is how do we give him them chances? Doncaster have conceded 44 goals in 29 games, 25 of them away from home, do we need 4 defenders against them! No, let's take a leaf out of Watfords book and play 3 at the back, Calderon, Upson and Ward, with Ince, Stephens and Orlandi in the middle, March and LuaLua on the wings feeding Ulloa and Obika! 3-4-3 or even 3-3-2-2 Ambitious I know, but it would pin them back in their half and we could run riot! Get the crowd onside and would do the goal difference some good as well.

They had been 'in post' for years. OG has been in for mere months, during most of which he has had half a squad to choose from. GP would have thrown his toys out the pram many times by this point in the season.

I'd rather have the quiet, thoughtful, analytical OG than he exuberant, motor-mouthed extrovert GP.

Lets be honest guys, the main thing that we are lacking on the park is creativity, you can have five strikers on the park but if we don't create plays that open in defenses it matters not how many strikers we put on the field.

When did we last get awarded a penalty, who among our team carries the ball into the 18 yard area rather than taking a shot from 20 yards or more.

It is my hope that with CMS returning we might actually see someone who can run with the ball at his feet, Kaz does it our wide but the quality of his delivery is not consistently good. Buckley, to varying degrees, can also do it but his form, when fit, has dropped off big time.

Promotion this year is a bit of a pipe dream right now, but I guess anything can happen, there is a lot of football still to be played. I won't have a problem at all if we don't make it this year but come the summer, I am hoping for sweeping changes to the squad.

You obviously haven't seen much of March, guess across the pond your not going to, but he has got real ability with the ball at his feet, looked very good when he came on. Rodders looked useful, very quick and direct, someone mentioned we lack numbers in the box when we attack, very good point, address this and the goals will come.

I don't think OG knows another system as well as this one, does he? He's been schooled in a certain style for his entire career, a particular methodology and he has been hired for precisely that reason. Bloom wants us to have an identity, and that identity does not really cater for the English-style 4-4-2.

If you are the best we can get we are in serious trouble
.If you were a true supporter, you would recognise how far we have come in recent years and would not be so impatient for the prem.
We will get there, it may take a couple more years, but it is being done correctly.
The Blues Bros as you call them are doing what TB requires of them.

TB has put a fortune into this club and he is not going to squander it because a few numpties tell him he should spend more than the club can afford.

Just watched 1st half u21s against palace, we went 1-0 down then our keeper (Walken) saved a penalty, then we scored 2 quick goals, first one a Cms cross I think, Cms looked pretty good, chasing the ball about, could be on the bench in a couple of weeks imo. Dickenson looked good, big and strong and gets down the left quite well, Monakana has pace but tries to be to clever, not sure what age centre backs are but don't look good enough at the moment to step up and put Greer or Upson out of the team. Quite a big crowd considering the weather etc.

Thanks TBG, a final whistle report would be very welcome.

I know TB has done well and is a true Brighton man,I just think the B.Bros are letting him down we need to buy much better than we have before letting good players go.The scouting should be finding very good players for little money from lower leagues other teams find them , they rarely do.How can we compete with say Forest who are loaded down with good forewards.

The way to score goals is to buy a decent striker but Albion won't do that.
A for Ambition. Stay mid table and don't spend money.
L for Lets abide by the fair play rules and not spend money.
B for Better not get promoted as it will cost too much
I for I wish we hadn't got rid of Gus
O for ordinary football with ordinary players
N for No wish to get promotion due to cost.
