Albion have vowed to back Oscar Garcia in the loan market if required – despite posting eight-figure losses for last season.

The Seagulls have announced a £14.7million deficit for the 2012-13 campaign, when they reached the Championship play-offs, and say they are clawing that back through off-pitch streamlining.

Head coach Oscar and assistant Nathan Jones met with head of football operations David Burke to discuss areas of possible squad strengthening yesterday.

Albion brought in a record transfer fee believed to be about £3million for Liam Bridcutt in the January transfer window. The Argus understands they also turned down seven-figure offers for two other players.

Now they are ready to use the loan market and are waiting for fall-out from the Premier League as clubs select their squads for the rest of the season.

Burke said injury problems affecting Will Buckley and the speed of Craig Mackail-Smith's return to action were factors under consideration before they make any move.

There is also likely to be movement out of the club with in-form development squad striker Brennan Dickenson a leading candidate to gain experience elsewhere.

Burke said: “We don't want to leave the club wanting or the manager wanting.

“There is a lot of weighing up to be done.

“If you delay it a few weeks, if you were to sign somebody now it would not take them to the play-off final.

“Our job in supporting Oscar is to make sure we know who is available at every club and who can come in and be ready to play straight away.

“You don't want a loan player who has not played all season.

“With the transfer window ending, clubs squads change as well.

“They will be announcing their Premier League squads.

“There was quite a lot of activity on the last two days of the window.

“Players have now become available who were not available and Mervyn Day and his scouting team are looking at them now.

“We would always look to strengthen where we need to. We meet every day to talk about such things.”
