Leonardo Ulloa proved to be Albion’s matchwinner for the second time in four days as Leeds were beaten 1-0 at the Amex.

The Argentinean’s eighth goal of the season on 64 minutes sealed another valuable three points and lifted the Seagulls to seventh in the Championship.

It was their fourth successive 1-0 win at home, with Ulloa also netting the only goal of the game as Albion beat Doncaster on Saturday.

Oscar Garcia made just one change from the side that beat Doncaster on Saturday with Inigo Calderon coming in at right-back for Bruno who was ruled out with a thigh injury.

Abion’s early promise was nullified by a resolute Leeds side in the first half.

The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Ulloa on 34 minutes when he took a ball down on his chest and volleyed low past the near post.

In the closing stages of the half Solly March screwed an effort wide after being teed up by Andrea Orlandi from Calderon’s header back across goal.

Then Orlandi himself hooked a shot past a post.

Early in the second half Alex Mowatt tested Tomasz Kuszczak for the first time with a curling effort from 20 yards which caused no problems, then soon after the Albion keeper punched clear a free-kick from Ross McCormack.

The introduction of Kazenga LuaLua for David Rodriguez just before the hour-mark proved key as his cross provided the break on 64 minutes.

LuaLua’s centre from the left was collected by Ulloa with one touch and with his second he nonchalantly flicked the ball into the corner of the net.

Moments later Albion threatened a second but March’s shot took a deflected and Paddy Kenny held low down.

March fired another chance wide of the target, then a Dale Stephens shot took a deflection and Kenny saved, while at the other end Kuszczak got down well to collect Mowatt’s shot.

Otherwise, Albion were untroubled and they can now look forward to the FA Cup fifth round clash with Hull next Monday.
