Leonardo Ulloa proved to be Albion’s matchwinner for the second time in four days as Leeds were beaten 1-0 at the Amex.

The Argentinean’s eighth goal of the season on 64 minutes sealed another valuable three points and lifted the Seagulls to seventh in the Championship.

It was their fourth successive 1-0 win at home, with Ulloa also netting the only goal of the game as Albion beat Doncaster on Saturday.

Oscar Garcia made just one change from the side that beat Doncaster on Saturday with Inigo Calderon coming in at right-back for Bruno who was ruled out with a thigh injury.

Abion’s early promise was nullified by a resolute Leeds side in the first half.

The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to Ulloa on 34 minutes when he took a ball down on his chest and volleyed low past the near post.

In the closing stages of the half Solly March screwed an effort wide after being teed up by Andrea Orlandi from Calderon’s header back across goal.

Then Orlandi himself hooked a shot past a post.

Early in the second half Alex Mowatt tested Tomasz Kuszczak for the first time with a curling effort from 20 yards which caused no problems, then soon after the Albion keeper punched clear a free-kick from Ross McCormack.

The introduction of Kazenga LuaLua for David Rodriguez just before the hour-mark proved key as his cross provided the break on 64 minutes.

LuaLua’s centre from the left was collected by Ulloa with one touch and with his second he nonchalantly flicked the ball into the corner of the net.

Moments later Albion threatened a second but March’s shot took a deflected and Paddy Kenny held low down.

March fired another chance wide of the target, then a Dale Stephens shot took a deflection and Kenny saved, while at the other end Kuszczak got down well to collect Mowatt’s shot.

Otherwise, Albion were untroubled and they can now look forward to the FA Cup fifth round clash with Hull next Monday.

Albion: Kuszczak; Calderon, Greer, Upson, Ward; Ince, Stephens, Orlandi; March (sub Buckley 72), Ulloa (sub Obika 81), Rodriguez (sub LuaLua 57). Subs not used: Dunk, Forster-Caskey, Lopez, Brezovan.

Leeds: Kenny; Byram, Pearce, Lees, Warnock; Kebe, Austin, Murphy, Mowatt (sub Hunt 77), Pugh (sub Smith 68); McCormack. Subs not used: Peltier, Brown, Tonge, Wootton, Cairns.

Yes a very good win today, looking forward to hearing from those that were there.
The playoffs, one spot is up for grabs for sure, and maybe two but the other four look booked to me, but you never know. It could all come down to our final game.

Great result. Albion started like a house on fire but faded after the first 15. Leeds were tough in defence and fast on the break. The game got a bit scrappy with more than the usual high balls and could have gone either way but then as so often is the case Lua Lua made his entrance with a little step over, a dash to the bye line, and cross which Ulloa deftly finished. Stand out players were Ince again, and also the defenders especially Upson (who is possibly shaping up for a player of the season nomination), and TK who was extremely steady tonight and made several excellent punch clearances. Didn't think the ref had a good game tonight actually making some really obvious errors including a back pass to the Leeds goalie who picked it up.

Whilst no opportunity to see Inigo warming up, great to see a solid performance from him. Rohan, once again making a solid and hefty positive difference for us.

Kazenga coming on at around 55 minutes seems ideal again. Hopefully Oscar will stick to that. Solly showing flashes of brilliance and Buckley looked very sharp for the 20 minutes or so he was on the pitch too. Rodriguez looked decent and sharp again, tackling back, pacey, interesting runs - it'd be good on occasion to see two left up the pitch earlier on so that Leo has someone to pass to - we still break exceptionally slowly most often. The goal seemed like slow motion.

Great solid defensive performance again - this time against a better team and of course, McCormack - keeping him quiet shouldn't be taken for granted.

Perhaps someone needs to take a better look at Bruno's "thigh" - the 7th occurence I believe since he joined us?

With Wigan next and the likes of ipswich, Reading and Blackburn at home still to come destiny appears to be in our hands!! Final ball and shooting practise still required though ....

Brilliant always to see Oscar truly and properly applauding the fans at the end of each match.

Good win, six pointer really, shouldn't complain, but boy, it ain't arf frustrating to watch!

We really do miss having something better in midfield. Need a Charlie Adams type to provide some guts and power, and a Juan Mata type to provide some creativity. Orlandi and March, although often bright in spells, just don't have that cut and thrust.

Absolutely solid at the back with ince playing in front of the back 4, but sometimes wish we could push him into midfield proper at the expense of Orlandi. Dales Stephens ? Jury still out on him.

Next game, same back 4 plus Andrews in front of them, Buckley and LuaLua wide, Caskey and Ince in central midfield, and Ulloa up top.

Stephens can't play against Hull anyway so time to mix it up on Saturday.

All about the result tonight, a poor game to be honest, but just about deserved. Kaz once again was the difference, time to sort his contract out. Leo took his goal well, not back to his best but still scoring which is the sign of a quality striker. Ince was excellent, deserving of his mom award, back four very solid and the big pole caught and punched with equal assurance.
Orlandi off the pace at the moment and Stephens is a bit sloppy in possession, Agustein must be pretty p...ed off at the moment.
March played well, some lovely touches and applauded the fans when he came off, great to see Will back on the pitch, looked quite sharp but not match fit yet.
All in all, job done, great to beat dirty Leeds, doubt many had far to go home.

Good solid performance, Greer had his best game for a while, Solly showing great promise, Ince, well what can you say about the guy, an absolute beast!
Caldi, reliable as ever, may not have Bruno's flair but doesn't get caught out as much.
Rodney is like a dog with a tennis ball, he will chase anything and everything, apart from a couple of wayward passes he had a good game and people are starting to like him imo. I think we are starting to see Oscars attacking style of play coming through, all the subs were pace for pace, and we did not try to defend our lead by sitting back.
But, and it's a big but, we still cannot score that second goal! We need to dig in and wait for others to drop a few points, I can see us going to Forest for the last game of the season needing a win for a play off spot, keeps it interesting though!
Can't wait for Monday night, Hull are in for a big surprise and a plum draw for us in the next round please. UTA

Ince 8, Stephens 5, Orlandi 6, March 6,

Again Ulloa's touch was a bit off but a superb finish for the goal and that's what counts! Orlandi saw loads of the ball but his passing and shooting range isn't quite there yet. Rodriguez made some fast runs but his final ball was a bit wasteful...looks like he could be very useful once he settles. Ward doesn't cross very well coming forward (his cross for Ulloa on Saturday notwithstanding) but is steady in defence. Stephens was a bit slow and caught in possession a bit too easily but an improvement on Saturday. March showed some lovely close control again but not in the game as much as on Saturday. Greer and Upson played very well. Calde got his customary yellow early on (as Bruno often does too to be fair) but was very solid without being so creative going forward. Ince showed nice feet and won the ball back several times after losing it, a firm Amex favourite already.

Thought Solly was man of the match - simply teriffic and always very positive - always thinking forwards. MAtch changed noticeably with the introduction of Kazenga and although Leo didn't get provided with many chances when it did come he took it superbly like all good strikers do! But -- as other people on here are alluding to - we need another more creative provider in midfield -
Stephens made mistakes - Ince was solid again! Leeds? Could you recognise them?

Maybe a 6 for Stephens, still settling in.
Greer 6.5 still makes the occasional lazy pass which puts us back under pressure, but better than saturday.

Greer had a better game than last time out. Stephens and Rodriguez not up to speed yet - can't afford to have two like that in the starting line-up. I don't understand why the best 11 has to wait for subs to come on. I prefer Caldi to Bruno - but only if Buckley starts along side him. Clean sheet - yes, but still too many unforced errors. I hope Oscar makes them endure a video as part of the de-brief. Looks like a few clubs now scrapping for 6th place.

It was a good game. We were more solid than Saturday against a supposedly better team. Leeds rarely threatened and the back 5 were outstanding. Our passing was not as brisk and crisp as it needed to be to break them down, but we still bossed the game. KLL and Buckley not 100% fit, but how great to be able to bring them on as subs for the last 20-30 mins!

Ince deserved MoM, but even he needs to move the ball more quickly sometimes. Our long range passing was inconsistent today. We often had men over just asking for the long diagonal ball, but too often the passes were miss hit or under hit. However, the intention to attack was always there.

Kaz is such a brilliant outlet. Just give him the ball and he will generally hold on to it. He gets defenders back pedalling and the opposition always have at least 2 defenders on him. He goes past defenders and puts us on the front foot. As others have said, I continue to be impressed with March. he can only get better, which is an exciting prospect. The two new boys did OK, but no better than that. Still early days though.

Great result , every man jack of the team deserves mom. Rohan Ince however was awesome. As noted in The Seagull Love Review issue 56 he is so good he can nutmeg a mermaid.
One incident off the pitch says it all for me. In the 40th minute the ball went out and Oscar controlled the ball with one touch and kicked it back to the player taking the throw in. A few moments later the ball went out again and McDermott stepped over the ball and let it run down the tunnel. I'll let you decide who was class and who was not. UTA

Well Ulloa's goal-bound shot took a wicked deflection off a defender, and left Kenny rooted to the spot as the ball hit the back of the net, but at least he was in the right spot to score. I don't think he is fully fit yet, but getting there.
Lua Lua's thirty minute appearance is probably right for him. If he does have a knee problem, then better to use him sparingly rather than have him missing for several games by giving him the full ninety minutes.
We seem to have a good squad now. I like the look of all the new lads and, with Ince in the team and Andrews around, I don't think we will miss Bridcutt now, good though he was for us.

A good win at a time when Leeds are going through a bad patch, good to see Buckley getting some first team action, agree we have a decent Championship side with our injured players coming back,we should hold our present position in the table and can look forward to another season in this league .

Goals, goals, goals.
Don't think we will be doing any mixing it up on Saturday! try Monday.......

well played Brighton much, much better than Saturday. They mixed it up more no sideways backwards passing. More direct approach which I liked. Funny how some say poor game I thought it was the best game so far this season and so did the people around me and on the coach home. More please.
I too thought it was a good game lots one twos going on. Thought it was on a parr with the Leicester game...............

Ulloa shot did not take a deflection, Kaz's cross did.....think you need to go to spec savers............

Agree with this word-for-word.
