Crawley are poised to complete a double signing ahead of tomorrow’s “six-pointer” against Carlisle United.

Boss John Gregory is confident of further strengthening his squad following the arrival of Hiram Boateng and Sullay Kaikai on loan from Crystal Palace last week.

Gregory has not revealed the identities of the two players but has said they are experienced and will join on a permanent basis, which suggests they are free agents as the transfer window has closed.

Reds go into tomorrow’s game just one point above the relegation zone following a spate of postponements in recent weeks which has left them with up to six games in hand on the sides around them.

Carlisle arrive at the Checkatrade.com Stadium two points above Crawley with Tranmere, who are level on points with Reds, due to come to Sussex on Tuesday.

Gregory said: “It’s a very important game for us, a six-pointer you could say. Yes we’ve got games in hand but we’d rather have points on the board.

“We just want to have the chance to get out on the pitch and play a game of football as it’s been very frustrating having so many matches called off.

“Once we get a run of games I’m sure we’ll start climbing back up the table because we’ve shown we are more than a match for anybody in this division.”

Reds are “cautiously optimistic” tomorrow’s game will go ahead despite further heavy rain forecast for today after borrowing six industrial fans to help dry out the pitch at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.

Chief executive Michael Dunford said: “At the moment the pitch is playable. If the covers do their job today we are hopeful that the game will take place.”
