Albion line up possible Poyet return

The Argus: Gus Poyet could be returning to te Amex Gus Poyet could be returning to te Amex

Albion will be at home to Gus Poyet’s Sunderland in the quarter-final of the FA Cup if they win through tomorrow’s fifth round clash with Hull City at the Amex.

The Seagulls will claim a place in the last eight of the competition for only the third time in their history if the beat Steve Bruce's Tigers.

That would hand them a quarter-final clash with the Black Cats, who are now managed by former Albion boss Poyet.

Poyet was sacked by Albion last summer after leading the Seagulls to the Championship play-offs last season.

He took over at the Stadium of Light in October and last month signed midfielder Liam Bridcutt, Albion's player of the season for the last two years.

It will be viewed as a favourite draw for Albion who have missed out on facing either Manchester City or the winners of Arsenal against Liverpoool.

The tie will take place on the weekend of March 8/9.

Full quarter-final draw: Arsenal or Liverpool v Everton, Albion or Hull v Sunderland, Sheffield United or Nottingham Forest v Sheffield Wednesday or Charlton, Manchester City v Wigan.

Of the Prem clubs still in the completion I guess Sunderland poses the lesser threat, so from a football point of view this is a good draw for us, win tomorrow and we have a chance of going to Wembly.
From a personal point of view, I would rather Southampton had put Sunderland out because for me, the whole Poyet deal is still a tad raw, this might sound silly but I just don't want him in our stadium, not yet.

This draw is certainly means another TV donation to the transfer kitty, if we beat Hull, I am sure one of the TV companies will pick it up if only because of how Poyet came to leave the club. Brighton players V Sunderland players and Oscar V Gus, a double for the price of one.

Well it's just how I feel about Gus. I had a lot of respect for the man, respect and an appreciation for all the good he did for Brighton, but toward the end he soured it all. I guess I feel a little let down by the man I had so many hopes for, I honestly thought that he would take us up, that he believed in the, plan,' but like so many others in the football world, he was just looking out for number one, and I don't like that.
If I took out all my personal feelings, then yeah, it's a great draw in terms of money and a chance to progress.

I don't want to play down the prospect of meeting Sunderland in the next round (I am really excited about it) , but imho there are two points that need making. Firstly, the play offs must surely be our priority..... and secondly we do have a habit of being a little presumptuous (Remember Barnsley?).
Hull City will field a strong side - be sure of that - and if (God forbid) we do not get past them, then we have a bigger prize to go for!

I still believe his actions in that final game cost us a place in the playoff final. The likes of TK and Ulloa will be in the 18 players picked to play at some point tomorrow, Brez and Obika will start and maybe Dunk and Chicksen, the rest will be as strong as we have, then depending how the game goes will determine who comes on later. Hull will come to play, not park the bus, this will play to our strengths and we will have a good chance of a win!

Yep I can agree with almost all you have written, my only diversion from the four players you name would be Ward for Chicksen, I think Oscar might want just a little extra insurance at the back, and Ward does get forward at times, I am not saying this should happen, I just think it might.

Neville points out that the players are not told that they are playing until an hour before the match, and he could be right, but training the sessions would be geared toward certain players, of that I am pretty confident.
If we have a plan to nullify a particular opponent's threat, much as we did regarding McCormack, then the defensive players will be focusing on what ever the plan is, I doubt that it's too hard for the lads to work out who is starting and who isn't.
If Obika is to start, you can bet your life that work has been done on how best to utilize his talents, and again this would be a pointer as to who is going to start. I really do think that the lads have been told today who is in and who isn't.

Hull will come to play, not park the bus, this will play to our strengths and we will have a good chance of a win![/p][/quote]Yep I can agree with almost all you have written, my only diversion from the four players you name would be Ward for Chicksen, I think Oscar might want just a little extra insurance at the back, and Ward does get forward at times, I am not saying this should happen, I just think it might. Neville points out that the players are not told that they are playing until an hour before the match, and he could be right, but training the sessions would be geared toward certain players, of that I am pretty confident.

You surprise me Vegas. What better way to say Hello to Gus again. Bet he will be praying Hull win. This will not have been on Gus's agenda at all so soon. You will hear the roar in Vegas if we won this one. It will sell out for sure making us money. Money he will hate to see us get. First post you have made i vehemently disagree with.
Sorry. Fair comment agree totally with your response. I thought he would be the man too. Like you I think he let us all down for all the good he had done. Still a tough ask yet to beat Hull so after euphoria of two hrs ago i have now calmed down. Wish draw had not been made until after our game but guess no different had we drawn with hull on saturday and needed a replay.

OMG Vagas! Poyet couldn't wait to jump ship for a better offer. He doesn't have an ounce of class, although he's an excellent coach. Oscar will field a weaker team as he's promised them a game tomorrow. Brez is terrible, a calamity waiting to happen and should never play. All the fans want our strongest team to play - but OG will do otherwise. Come on you Seagulls - can't wait!!!!

Well we have all had our say, so now it's time to forget about Sunderland and get back to thinking about our match with Hull, well it is for me.

I have always been pretty sure that Bruce would field a mixed team of fringe and regulars, more fringe than regular, and that could happen, but reading various articles this morning leaves me to think that just maybe he plans to be stronger. I think Bruce might want this a bit more than I thought he would.
Whilst the risk of dropping into the relegation zone is a possibility for Hull, picking up three points from Cardiff is doable and Bruce might fancy his senior players to be capable of winning both matches, even if there is not a lot of time between games. Brighton are not known for being a dirty side, on the contrary, we are know for playing good football, so I doubt injury to his key players features too high in his mind, well not from heavy tackles.

I think that there is a chance that we will get a little shock come team announcement time, we just might be up against most of his best, and not because of the draw announced today. Both managers have hinted at how they will approach the match, I wonder if both have been blowing smoke and both lineups will be a surprise.

Nevertheless whatever happens will be all defining on the ambitions of the football club. With a guaranteed televised fixture which will play in front of a full house for a fortune in prize money on the horizon we shall learn a lot when the team is announced. I hope common sense is the winner.

I think it might be more accurate if you waited until after the match ends rather than making your mind up before we even kick off with regard to the club's ambitions. So if Oscar makes the changes he wants and we win, you will say what?

We have to go for the win tomorrow with our best team. It's a great chance to fill our coffers. Apart from the £257K TV money, the winners also get £180K from the FA. The winners of the QF get £360K plus there will be the TV money of a further £257K, so these two matches alone are worth £1m.
If we beat Sunderland we'd still get £450K if we lost the SF plus the TV money or £900K if we were to win.
With so much money at stake, we just have to field our strongest team.

I also wrote last week about our staggeringly good record at home against teams from the north east. If you believe in omens, we simply could not have got a better draw !!!! Neither teams have ever beaten us down here.

'Nevertheless whatever happens will be all defining on the ambitions of the club,' why? Surely this is your opinion as to what the lineup means, the line up might look just about right to sum and not to others, again, opinions.

I fail to see how anyone can say what the ambitions of the club are based on one cup match. We are spending some 31 million on our new facility, what does that say about the club's ambitions, maybe a little more than the line up for Hull. The, 'club,' doesn't select the team Oscar does and he has to balance the match against Hull along with trying to beat Wigan when three points are at stake. Is your comment foolish, no, just inaccurate.

Different topic.
I guess next week might be the time we hear something about a loan signing, as yet nothing seems to be doing the rumor rounds but as the club have indicated their desire to borrow one or two players, I would like to think that we will hear something soon.

Don't hold your breath Vegas.
The phrase used was ''if required''.
With the return of injured strikers imminent, are there any positions that you think would justify the expense?

'Woder iff' 'Hopeing' I take it spelling not your strongest point, also please note there is a space after a comma.
