JOHN GREGORY believes new striker Rory Fallon is just what Crawley Town need.

The New Zealand international has joined the Reds on a deal until the end of the season after being released by St Johnstone.

He will go straight into the squad for tonight’s League One match at home to Tranmere, subject to Crawley receiving international clearance from the Scottish FA.

The 31-year-old began his career at Barnsley and has also played for Shrewsbury, Swindon, Yeovil, Swansea, Plymouth, Ipswich and Aberdeen Fallon was part of New Zealand’s squad for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, having scored the only goal in the second leg of a play-off against Bahrain to send them to the finals.

Gregory said: “Rory hasn’t had too many opportunities in Scotland so he is really looking forward to a new challenge.

“He is very experienced, knows this league inside out and can score goals. We’re delighted he is with us for what is going to be a very busy end to the season.”

Reds are also thought to be interested in signing former Derby and Leeds defender Paul Connolly.

Crawley are confident tonight’s game will go ahead.

Further work has been carried out over the past 48 hours to the area at the North Stand end which caused Saturday’s game with Carlisle to be postponed.

No pitch inspection has been planned.

Tranmere, meanwile,  have suspended manager Ronnie Moore, pending the conclusion of a Football Association investigation into a potential breach of betting rules.

It is understood the allegation relates to regulations which prevent him from betting on any competition in which his club is involved.

The FA has neither confirmed nor denied that Moore was the subject of an investigation by its integrity unit.

The League One side have put assistant John McMahon in temporary charge.

Moore, 61, became manager of Rovers for a second time in 2012 following spells at Oldham, Southport and Rotherham.

Tranmere currently sit 18th in the table, two points clear of the relegation zone.
