Albion striker on the up after winning new deal

The Argus: Shamir Goodwin has won a new contract until the end of next season Shamir Goodwin has won a new contract until the end of next season

Shamir Goodwin has been told he can keep on climbing the ladder with Albion after earning a new 18-month contract.

The 19-year-old development striker on loan to Torquay United scored a spectacular goal at Chesterfield last Saturday, the first of his League career.

Development coach Simon Ireland believes Solly March's rise into the first team and head coach Oscar Garcia's willingness to give youngsters a chance should encourage Goodwin.

Ireland said: "That door is open for him as long as he keeps working hard and does things that the manager looks at and is then impressed by.

"Scoring goals like he did the other day is going to keep people interested. It's allright doing it for one game, it's getting that consistency.

"The timing has got to be right as well. You look at Solly, he has bided his time, he has now gone in and put in some consistent performances at first team level.

"It's just getting that timing right but the manager is always saying the door is open for anyone if they work hard and impress to get an opportunity."

Well done Shamir. Never seen him play before but it was a truly spectacular debut goal for Torquay - pace, skill and quick feet.

If he wasn't on loan it would have been good to see him in the Hull squad this coming Monday. Young striker, let off the leash with all that energy!
