Shamir Goodwin has been told he can keep on climbing the ladder with Albion after earning a new 18-month contract.

The 19-year-old development striker on loan to Torquay United scored a spectacular goal at Chesterfield last Saturday, the first of his League career.

Development coach Simon Ireland believes Solly March's rise into the first team and head coach Oscar Garcia's willingness to give youngsters a chance should encourage Goodwin.

Ireland said: "That door is open for him as long as he keeps working hard and does things that the manager looks at and is then impressed by.

"Scoring goals like he did the other day is going to keep people interested. It's allright doing it for one game, it's getting that consistency.

"The timing has got to be right as well. You look at Solly, he has bided his time, he has now gone in and put in some consistent performances at first team level.

"It's just getting that timing right but the manager is always saying the door is open for anyone if they work hard and impress to get an opportunity."
