And that is a wrap. Thank you everyone for getting involved. Sorry if we did not ask your question but time is always limited.
Og involved in every signing. Got very good squad and he will pick 11 for every game.
1:43pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Hi, OG seems very reluctant to use Obika an was the same with Lita, was OG involved in their signing?
Everything here geared up to premier league club
If it still has 92 clubs. FfP done good job.
Hope we would not be seeing clubs in administration. Whatever way they turn out. Hope don't see that again. Better balance on money spent and money afforded. And healthy competition in every league.
@bypeterbrighton, clearly FFP will have a defining role in future, how do you see the game in 5 years time?— @RobinPorter6 21 February 2014
Beating palace at Amex was fantastic. And Blackpool and Barnsley. Away at Wigan. Even draw away at qpr. Side full of premier league quality.
@bypeterbrighton what has been Paul's favourite 3 Albion games since joining the Albion?— @chrisfield25 21 February 2014
Museum will open very soon. Very close. Had to adjust lighting to protect exhibits. Dicks bar incredibly popular. Recently opened sports bar. Priority is families. Got one other area looking at for another adult bar. Likely in summer.
@bypeterbrighton, Dick's Bar is very popular on match days, any plans for expansion, and when will the museum open?— @RobinPorter6 21 February 2014
Wrong to comment on individuals. Og has some fantastic contacts in game eg guardiola and mourinho. Does not mean list of players available. Difficult process but oscar well networked. Preparing own list. Not just focused on one country. Eg USA, asia
1:38pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Gus and Vicente clearly didn't see eye to eye but was there any thoughts of bringing him back once Gus left? Or maybe even now? Obviously, Oscar is very aware of him and was even a team-mate for a short time, I believe.
Also, will Oscar be able to use his links in Spain to bring players in from there in the summer?
Would like both. Promotion would be realisation of chairmans dream. But also good for future and for city and fans. To get to premier league after all the pain incredible. But fa cup dear to my own heart. It's special.
@bypeterbrighton FA Cup Winners or promotion? Are we really ready to go up yet?— @GeddesChris 21 February 2014
Not yet. Couple of ideas. Coach decides where we are best to prepare. Climate, facilities come into play. Might be warmer than here.
@bypeterbrighton any ideas for where we are going for the pre season next season ?— @Alastair___ 21 February 2014
No other market in world is like it
All fees are fully disclosed to fa and football league incl agent fees.
Sometimes both clubs would prefer it that way. Tends to be mutual agreements. Double edged sword. Can keep business private but leaves void so people can speculate. Can work both ways. Prefer to have private.
@bypeterbrighton Mr Barber, why are so many transfers at the club made under the cloak of "undisclosed fees"?— @tgbowles 21 February 2014
Got some really good young players despite current facilities. Eg nice and dunk. Really good impact. Work has been magnificent. All our players in one place in lancing. Can learn from senior players and attract young players. Have not had quality up until now. And will be able to retain young players.
@bypeterbrighton Training ground/Youth academy: how long before new fantastic new facilities bring through new young players?— @seagullmouse 21 February 2014
Very good communications team. Anything they think I should see they make me aware.
No. I don't. Focus is on running football club.
@bypeterbrighton Do you read the forums, e.g. North stand chat?— @seagullmouse 21 February 2014
I played football for many years at decent level and enjoyed.
@bypeterbrighton Does paul barber play football himself?! (Fun question - not sniping!)— @WindyBloke 21 February 2014
Really difficult challenge. Thousands want to buy food and drink. Tried prepour but not as fizzy as they like. Age old problem. Exactly same on other side of world. Still not allowed to take beer back to seat. Would like to see that changed.
I often go to the Albion but find it difficult to get a drink at half time as the bars are often packed and you have to queue to buy a drink. Obviously if I wait for 10 minutes I then have only 5 minutes to drink my pint! I'm sure if there was a better system more people would buy drinks and the profits would go up! Isn't it possible for the bar staff to pre-pour a number of pints to make the service quicker? I know quite a few people who don't buy drinks because of this problem.
WAs not shocked. Look at it every day and week. Know exactly where we are. Know what we can afford either paper clip or player.
For bridcutt record transfer so we were delighted. Ashley out of contract. Was not keen to sign new one.
1:20pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Do Liam Bridcutt and Ashley Barnes have clauses where Brighton would benefit from any future sales? Were you shocked that the club had made the loss of 14.6million in the last financial year?
Every contract has different set of circumstances. In background agents are having discussions. Sometimes things going on privately.
@bypeterbrighton Please ask why we leave players on the edge of going out of contract @TomKuszczak for example, he is quality, sign him up!!— @smudgerstwit 21 February 2014
That's football. Have to have thick skin. Majority understand pressure club is under.
Ow do you deal with sniping?
Og was top of list for type of coach. Had ultimate background.
We encourage players to play football through club from academy to first team. Not a negative team. Very important in search for coach.
1:20pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Eddy B says
Following the footballing master classes provided by Bayern Munich and Barcelona this week is the tiki taca style of football something we want to continue to encourage at the Amex?
Can't talk about terms do departure. If we do prevail on Monday then we will be delighted to have safc.
1:16pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Dear Mr Barber, Is it true that Gus and Tano gave you the chance to part company on amicable terms without any cost to the club before their suspension? Thanks for your answer.
Regulation have to stop for 90mins
1:14pm Fri 21 Feb 14
falmer seagull says
Please could the clocks on the large screens keep running past 90 minutes so fans can keep a check on extra time, or, countdown the extra time?
21 of 24 clubs voted in favour. Solidarity absolute. Rules and regs like any other eg number of subs. Have to comply. What football club must do. Expect league to play its part. Sanctions in place. Fines Will go to charity. Also transfer embargo. Can't sign any new players but also prevent renewal of contracts of players that have come to end. Could be advantage to those who comply. Hoping will be put in place like I have described. Will be furious if not.
@bypeterbrighton FFP: What confidence do you have that the rules will be adequately investigated and enforced by the football authorities?— @Seagull181005 21 February 2014
Worked with both systems. Both have positives and negatives. Huge amount of work going into managing first team. Look at this week with cup and league ties. If there was no one else to scout players etc and contracts impossible task for og.
12:46pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Dear Mr Barber- I do not believe directors of football, generally speaking, work in this country, I don't think it's a great idea. If you look at the best sides and the best managers they are strong, independent individuals who maintain most of the power at football clubs.
The obvious example is Sir Alex Ferguson, who did not have a director of football. Yes, David Gill would complete the transfers but Fergie would be the one to decide precisely who he wanted.
People say directors of football can work because they'll discuss with managers who they want and what their options are. But with a strong and powerful manager there shouldn't be any discussions, it should be a case of the manager makes the decisions and the manager demands and acts upon them because he is the one who lives and dies by it.
Arsene Wenger is the same story. Look at Arsenal's comparable success and director of football? No chance.
Apparently when Brendan Rodgers joined Liverpool he talked the club out of having a sporting director in Louis van Gaal because he wanted complete control and look at what they're doing at the moment.
There are far more examples of it failing than it working; Dennis Wise was parachuted in above Kevin Keegan at Newcastle, there was Gianluca Nani at West Ham when Alan Curbishley was in charge.
I think the club needs to appoint Oscar Garcia as the manager and have faith that he will make the right decisions. I know they've got big workloads and it's hard with the amount of duties they've got in terms of training and matches, but that's what they're earning big money for. Let Oscar bring in his own players not Mr Burkes- otherwise we will lose him to a club that will let him be manager.
Perhaps you could share your thoughts
Dynamic process. Always part of year when contracts will run to the end. Some will be early and some later. Focused on football.
I would like to ask Mr Barber if new contracts are being offered to the players (7 I believe) who will be out of contract in the summer. After all, the club are expecting us to renew our season tickets and we have no idea what sort of players we will have. I am a bit concerned that we are going back to the bad old days, when we let players go in the summer to save wages, and then get new players in at the start of the new season. I don't think the fans would be very happy if this is the case.
Difficult for club. Only club subsidising seven figure sum. Aware some fans want it scrapped. Difficult balancing act. Have to manage cost and help fans.
Will fans travelling from Eastbourne next season be able to get free travel to the amex? The cut off zone does not benefit fans travelling from the east at all but fans travelling from further away get free travel from the west. I emailed you last year and I was told you would have some positive news on it in the coming months.
Combination of safety and logistics. Always happy to receive feedback from fans. Going to announce changes on car park tomorrow.
1:08pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Why do the club still insist on loading one park and ride bus at a time when often after matches there are four or five ready to be loaded? Surely it would be better to get them all loaded and out and back as quickly as possible?
Yes and expect that to continue. Pressure for fees and wages to go down. Ffp was designed to do that. Biggest outgoing is player salaries. Expect to see deflation
With the FFP rules due to bite very soon, do you see both the asking price and wage demands, for and from, players going down? If yes, but what percentage, if no, why not?
Ingle most important thing for future of club
Biggest attendance in championship. Should be thrilled by crowds were getting. Don't have enough esp younger fans. Going to take time. Work with schools and different communities. Doesn't happen overnight.
Paul, not a single home game at the Amex has sold out this season. What are the club trying to do to get more fans coming to watch games and do you think it is working?
Sit in upper west. Not great combo of yellow on stripe shirt. Something aware of. Kit designs go through fads. Fad is no patches with number on stripes. Won't be doing next season.
Nature of running football club and fans are massive part. In their hearts and minds seven days a week and so it has to be in mine.
12:13pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Mr. Barber, are there days when you just don't want to go into work, you just gotta have a break. It seems to me that the job is 365 days per year.
Majority of injured players coming back from fitness. Got a very strong squad and some loan players in. Had good news with buckley and kuala. If of needs we have funds available to strengthen.
12:56pm Fri 21 Feb 14
Plymouth Seagull says
Many fans are Very concerned that we have heard nothing about any loans, which we need with the current news on injuries. Can you tell us something positive?
About breaking even. Try to get down to 8mil next year. Big challenge is income does not match outgoing. All champ clubs will make loss. For foreseeable future can expect clubs to lose money. Fortunate to have tony bloom. Can sustain losses
"Tony Bloom's investment into the club has been incredible, and the club's ambition to comply with FFP next year and run the club on a sustainable basis should be applauded. But meeting FFP rules still means incurring a substantial annual loss. Does the club have a plan to get to break-even (and when)? Is this only possible by reaching the Premier League? And how long will Tony be willing (or able!) to subsidise the club to this degree in the future?"
Changing brands. They're almost certainly increase but has been same for several seasons. Will be price rise
First email: I understand that who be will be supplying it has not been unveiled yet, but do the club envisage the price of the replicate kit sold to the fans increasing much, if at all?
We are almost ready to go.
