A former Crawley manager helped keep Rory Fallon in good shape before his move to join Reds.

Now the New Zealand international hopes to underline his sharpness on his debut.

Fallon hopes to get a chance to shine at Walsall today after signing as a free agent earlier this week.

He recently parted company with Scottish club St Johnstone.

He then trained with ex-Reds chief Steve Evans at Rotherham before the call came from Crawley.

Fallon’s former Aberdeen and Plymouth team-mate Kari Arnason put in a word and Evans invited him along.

He said: “That was great. It kept me fit and ticking over. Then I got the call from Crawley.

"I had been keeping fit on my own but it is not the same as training with a club so working with Rotherham was great.

"Then the manager here gave me the opportunity to come down and meet the lads.

"I did well enough in training to get a contract."
