John Gregory hailed Crawley’s defensive effort after a 2-1 victory at Walsall.

Two goals from Matt Tubbs proved enough to give the Reds victory on their return to action after five successive postponements.

Boss Gregory said: “We got off to a very good start. We came in 1-0 at half-time and then got a quality goal and really were very comfortable at 2-0.

“Micky Jones hit the crossbar which would have made it 3-0 which have been even better.

“Walsall got back in the game and we had to hang on at the end. We showed an enormous amount of resilience to withstand a barrage in that last 20 minutes or so.

“Our boys were throwing bodies at everything, certainly in the last 20 minutes.

“You can always tell how much you have been under pressure by the amount of work your goalkeeper has done and as much as Walsall had quite a bit of possession in the second half our goalkeeper rarely had a save to make.”
