Will Hoskins wants to be ready when called upon for Albion’s play-off push.

The striker struck after only nine minutes for Seagulls’ under-21s yesterday in a 1-1 draw against Bristol City to make it a happy return after a year on the sidelines following a cruciate knee ligament injury.

He was withdrawn after 30 minutes in a pre-planned move but buzzed around upfront during his brief stint.

Hoskins, 27, said: “There isn't that long left in the season so I have to get my fitness and sharpness quickly.

“I just want to be ready if I am called upon and the team needs me.

“Also, I want to give the team some healthy competition. I want to be there.”

Hoskins’ return is timely as striker Craig Mackail-Smith’s recovery has been slowed by a groin problem while striker Leo Ulloa is playing with an ankle injury.
