Millwall boss Ian Holloway has urged his side to start digging themselves out of “this mess” by beating Albion.

Holloway has revealed he said “a few bits and pieces”to his team after they remained just one place clear of the Championship drop zone by losing at Barnsley last Saturday.

Defeat at Oakwell came on the same day as all three teams in the relegation zone picked u three points as Yeovil and Charlton emulated Barnsley by recording 1-0 home wins.

The Lions look to ease fears of dropping into the bottom three by beating Oscar Garvia’s men at the Den on Saturday.

Holloway says he is still trying to pick up the pieces after replacing Steve Lomas in charge in mid-season.

He said: “I have had an open and frank meeting with the players and I said a few bits and pieces. My job is to show them what they didn't do right and then go again.

"I am trying to work out why we're not functioning like we should do. If I'd had a full season of selecting the team, I don't think we'd be in this mess.

"I have taken over at a very difficult time. You ask anybody who's trying to turn a team around, it's not easy.

“It's about hard work, people who care and doing the right things.”

Holloway is convinced Millwall can get out of trouble and sees the Seagulls’ visit as the first of 14 big matches.

He added: "We've got 14 more chances and who is to say we cannot win enough of those to stay up? Nobody can, that's the truth.”
