Local history: Silsden Local History Group is launching a new project to support villagers interested in researching their family or local heritage. An informal afternoon session, open to all, will be held once a month at Silsden Town Hall, when resources will be available to share. Chairman David Mason also plans to bring along archive material of Silsden which has been donated to the group and hopes this will lead to other items of local interest being brought along. The next session will be on Tuesday, March 25, when people can drop in between 2pm and 4pm. These afternoons are in addition to the regular monthly evening meetings.

Civic Society: The annual general meeting will take place in the Methodist Church next Thursday, March 6, at 7.15pm and will be followed by a talk by Rod Dimbleby entitled Yorkshire Tales. Doors open at 7pm and the talk starts at 7.30pm followed by refreshments at 8.30pm. The annual coffee morning takes place in St James’s Church on Saturday, March 15, from 10am.

Coffee and cakes: The Coffee, Cakes and Cameraderie coffee morning will be held at Silsden Methodist Church on Saturday from 9.30am to 11.30am. There will be bacon sandwiches, homemade cakes and drinks. There will also be a collection for Sports Relief.

Proms concert: The Proms on the Farm team present Inn Jeopardy with country and western and folk music from the 60s, 70s and 80s at Silsden Golf Club from 7.30pm on Saturday, April 19. Admission is £6 and proceeds will be split between Silsden Methodist Church and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Tickets are available from Twiggs newsagents on Kirkgate, Silsden. Please note the change of date. Anyone who has already bought a ticket for the previous date of March 7 can use their tickets on April 19 or present them at Twiggs for a full refund.
