Boss John Gregory admitted he feared it was not going to be Crawley's night as they needed an injury-time equaliser to rescue a point at home to struggling Stevenage.
Reds were completely outplayed in the opening 45 minutes and were fortunate to only trail to Bira Dembele's 22nd minute header.
Crawley roared back after the interval and missed a series of chances - including a penalty by Matt Tubbs - before Tubbs levelled in the 91st minute.
Gregory said: "It would have been a travesty if we hadn't got anything from the game but it didn't feel like it was going to be our night.
"It was one of those games when not too many things went for us but the lads kept going. They have got great spirit and a draw was certainly no more than we deserved at the end.
"We could have won 5-1 without question but we didn't and I suppose we were fortunate to come away with a point as we scored so late. There was a lot of relief when we finally got the equaliser."
