Oscar hails Albion's big finish

The Argus: Leo Ulloa opens the scoring Leo Ulloa opens the scoring

Oscar Garcia reckons a positive approach in the closing stages helped Albion close out a memorable win.

The Seagulls scored twice in the last 13 minutes to beat an impressive QPR side 2-0.

Oscar did not think it was his team’s best performance of the season.

But he was thrilled with the result and his team’s approach after Leo Ulloa had given them the lead.

Albion’s head coach said: “Maybe against Wigan (when Albion lost 2-1 recently) we played much better and it was our best performance at home but we couldn’t pick up three points, “But I am pleased because the game was like we planned.

“We knew in the second half we would find more spaces.

“We were positive and after the first goal we kept going and didn’t sit back.

“We wanted to score the second goal and we did it.”

As much as I agree with OG re Wigan game and as terrific result tonight was, I wish we would start with a more attacking tempo. We need to get men forward much much quicker. I know we have injuries but all our pace is out wide...The likes of JFC and Andrews are not blessed with dynamic bursts of speed and maybe trying March in the middle could be an option. UTA

I think Albion fans are generally a lot happier with our manager than QPR fans are with theirs. Looking at a couple of the QPR forums, there's quite a bit of negativity towards HR. Some of their fans are mystified why Tom Carroll can play well for England U21s but not get a regular place in the QPR team. If QPR don't want him (Carroll that is, not HR), perhaps Mssrs Burke, Barber and Bloom can ask Spurs very nicely if we can have him next season at least.

I know this forum is for opinion and debate, but i'm inclined to accept the result, the performance and the optimism for the run-in it provides, without getting too analytical.
I understand the natural quest of fans seeking perfection from their team and the specific desire to start quicker or get men forward more, but sometimes, it's worth just stepping back and enjoying theca outcome with a satisfied smile.

Not sure about OG's assertion. I thought it was a towering display defensively last night. Ince, Dunk and Upson were majestic, ably supported by Bruno, Ward and Kuszak. Too we took our two chances. So pleased for Ulloa who took his chance with consummate ease having been kicked and bundled all game with absolutely no support from a referee who was blind to anything their defenders handed out. Great too to see Ward get another goal. I reckon he is a top class player and a top bloke as well.

A great result against a very talented side. Response to the goals by the supporters was fantastic.

Even the comments made to us by the QPR fans as we made our way back to our transport home were mildly amusing. If we play like that every game we shall make the play offs.

Redknapp:

"We had all the play, all the chances. We were strong at the back, good in midfield, making chances, but we just couldn't score.
"I thought it would be a hard game but it wasn't, even though we lost. We were excellent for 80 minutes and we got done against the run of play."

Sounds like a bloke making excuses and preparing his speech to his owner.....

I though Lewis Dunk was brliant last night but anyone of the back 4 could have got M.OT.M wondered how the sponsors gave it to Ulloa? Too many free snapps in hospitality methinks!!!

Great post, Namgo. We were breed towering and it's great that Ulloa has his eye in for goal so regularly....we'll neglect to mention his sliced left-footer in the first half, though, shall we?

Do they have any quotes from him re: The Amex game? What? That was his post match quote from Tuesday? Oh dear, Arry. Unlike you to be so dishonest.
