Who was top man against QPR?

First published in Sport

Albion dug deep and pounced late for victory last night.

But who was your star man on the night they ground out a 2-0 win over QPR?

Lewis Dunk stepped in to replace suspended Gordon Greer and was resolute at the back.

Stephen Ward and Bruno were both involved in goals.

And Leo Ulloa, who put away that chance, was the sponsors’ pick as man of the match.

But can you look any further than Tomasz Kuszczak, who made good saves at 0-0, a brilliant fingertip effort at 1-0 and handled impressively?

So who do you go for?

It wasn’t easy but we have chosen a five-man shortlist.

Bruno is on fire at the moment! He did some great things again last night although he made a few mistakes last night too. Bruno or Kuszczak for me. There were other good performances too. Ince as always and Buckley looked really sharp considering he has been out for a while.

Ulloa, again, was in the right place at the right time but his all round play was poor. Quite often the service into him has been difficult but not last night. He failed to hold the ball up on numerous occasions. Lazy MoM award by the sponsors IMO. Lingard was also poor. Not seen him do anything Solly March can't do yet.

Dunk was also solid but disagree re lingard. Has great skill and had several incisive passes just missing. He has a quality we generally lack and will be a match winner shortly when he gets used to playing with the team. I like march but lingard is a step up, as you'd expect given his high regard at Man U.

I agree with Weststander, Lingard hasn't shown me he is any better than March or LuaLua for a starting place. He is a talent for sure, but too many misplaced passes, he doesn't have that electric pace I thought he was supposed to have, does not possess great skill or the ability to turn a full back inside out (like Kaz and Solly). He does have excellent natural awareness of space and finding the holes though, just not seen anything in three games that he can really exploit them regularly. He's at Man Utd for a reason though, but there is also a reason why he is not in the first team. Final thoughts here. He is a great talent but I believe Solly is better for a start position and we don't want 'great for the future' players, we need guys to score or win us games in the next two months. Perhaps OG should try Lingard as an impact player. After al, it doesn't do Kaz any harm.

My MOM was Lewis and closely followed by Kuz and Upson. I also think JFC had his best game for a while.

But very pleased with the three points against a very good team. It's gonna be a tight run in.

Dunk, shading Ward. Must secure Ward, Upson and TK for next year. Found myself thinking JFC unlucky to be subbed, and not an erstwhile advocate of him. Dare I say that I thought Andrews had some good moments, apart from one stand out misplaced pass?!
I think Will might at last be back - still the one to fill the crowd with expectation when he has the ball. LuaLua is the top impact sub, no doubt.
Lingard? Will need to add a bit more strength to supplement his guick feet, otherwise the hype will dissipate.
Certainly some grumbling QPR supporters last night around me on the way home. Great evening for all Albion fans.

There were plenty of heroes last night,an immense and gutsy effort against an assembled team,10 of whom started, played in the Premier League last season.I can only imagine their wage bill.
For me the defence was brilliant in keeping a clean sheet,Ulloa will get all the praise but Bruno,Dunk,Kuszczak,
Ward and JFC has grown in confidence and for me,had his best game in an Albion shirt

Pleased to see others praising JFC.
I thought he was excellent last night.
Slightly unlucky to be subbed,
but the change gave us the impetus to go on and win.

Bruno would have been my MOM on his attacking contribution but he made a few errors at the back. So it could go to any one of the defenders

Yes, Dunk was good, I missed him out. Interesting to see if he keeps Greer out of the team.

Lingard will have good games, he does find space well. Buckley looked really sharp last night which is very positive. Lua Lua had his usual impact. For me, Solly March is technically the best of all of them. Shows what great attacking options we have. Not mentioned Lopez, Orlandi or Rodriguez.

If Lewis Dunk gets dropped after his performance then he should feel very hard done by. In my opinion he is much better than Gordon Greer and deserves an extended run in the team.
