Ulloa ready to welcome back fellow strikers

The Argus: Leo Ulloa Leo Ulloa

Leo Ulloa is ready to welcome back Albion’s fit-again strikers with open arms as they push for the play-offs.

The Seagulls’ 12-goal top scorer wants to strike up a belated working relationship with Will Hoskins and Craig Mackail-Smith after both were injured in his first six weeks at the club.

Hoskins has sights set firmly on a return to first-team action after winning his tough 13-month battle against a knee injury.

And Mackail-Smith is back up and running in development squad matches after Achilles, foot and groin injuries.

Ulloa, bearing a heavy workload in attack, said: “I will welcome Will and Macca back with open arms. I want them back as soon as possible because we need them.

“I don’t really know either of them that well as players. I’ve hardly played with them.

“But, from what I’ve been told and the bits I’ve seen, they are very good players.”

Ulloa is delighted to see the injury list easing at just the right time. And he has praised head coach Oscar Garcia for his man-management during testing times.

He added: “What we have done so far this season really says a lot about us.

“After so many injuries, after losing players, after not many coming in, we are still there and we depend only on ourselves to get into the play-offs.

“Oscar just maintains this air of calmness. That is the way he is as a person and that is how he likes to work. He never throws in anything out of the ordinary during the week.”

Still 14 games to go if we get to Wembley and that represent over a quarter of the season. I feel sure we will see CMS & Hoskins play before then.
CMS Tweeted Monday after the DS game

Craig Mackail-Smith ‏@12CMS12
“Great to 45 mins today and to play alongside @W_Hoskins. Good workout and a step closer to 1st team action”

And Hoskins
Will ‏@W_Hoskins
“Great to get another 90 mins today. Legs are aching now.”

These 2 could still provide a real boost to the side for the run in.

So Oscar never throws in anything out of the ordinary during the week.
Not like Sir Alex Ferguson then.
Good news re WH and CMS although I don't see either playing 90 mins for at least a month. UTA

LU played with CMS a few times last year, before Craigs injury. They have a great potential, classic big 'un with speedy 'un feeding off. I hope to see this work in the run-in.

It will do no harm now that Hosko and CMS are getting near to competing for a squad place.
It will boost the confidence of the squad as a whole, and put the other forwards under pressure to perform and score goals in this final phase of the season.
(Not that I am disappointed with Leo's recent form, far from it, but he sometimes needs a bit of help up front )
UTA Let the good times roll.

It's great to know that our injured strikers are getting back to full fitness, and as Ulloa says, help up front is welcomed. For me the question is, how will that help be applied. If both Hoskins and CMS were ready to play on saturday I would guess that only one would be used, and as we don't play 4-4-2, does the help come in the form of subbing Ulloa at 60 minutes to help maintain his energy levels for the following match.
I suppose Lingard could lose his place to one of them but neither CMS or Hoskins are attacking midfielders and Lingard is, could one of them convert to that role.
The CMS question can wait as he is not yet ready to start and probably won't make the bench but Hoskins might. Perhaps what will happen is that at some time during the last 30 one of either Ulloa, Lingard or Buckley will come off and Hoskins goes on. I don't see Hoskins in the Buckley role, that belongs to Solly or super sub Kaz, so it would have to be one of the other two. Hoskins for Ulloa, maybe but we would have to be 2 goals up for me to like that move. Lingard looks like the candidate to make way. I guess Stephens could be pulled but that's the kind of move you would make if one nil down.

How would you fit Hoskins or CMS into the eleven, without going to a 4-4-2 system?

Sounds like it's all coming together at the right time. Craig cutting inside from the left, Buckley on the right and Leo up top is what I'd like to see. On another note before you know who arrives, blah blah, get a life, blah blah, sad little man, blah blah, Lewis Dunk's dad, blah blah, you never go to the games, blah Freeloader, blah Tears, blah Enlightenment, blah Ewok Face, blah blah blah. Hoping this will leave him with nothing else to say!

I'd say the lad from Man Utd purely because would rather have a player we paid a lot of money for who might feel he has a point to prove rather than improve someone who won't be with us next season whatever league we are in.
