In video - How Ipswich turned on the Barça-style for Oscar

The Argus: Oscar watches his side go down at Ipswich Oscar watches his side go down at Ipswich

Did Ipswich Town give former Barcelona star Oscar Garcia a taste of his own medicine this season?

That is the suggestion from Suffolk thanks to this clip on the Tractor Boys’ official YouTube channel.

Town were convincing 2-0 winners over Oscar’s men at Portman Road at the end of September.

And they have highlighted this bout of passing in the second half of that game.

The headline asks: Is it Ipswich Town or Barcelona?

Well it’s Ipswich. They are wearing blue and the scoreline at the top says “IPS”.

But it is dazzling stuff – and maybe a nice incentive for Oscar’s boys turn on the style at the Amex tomorrow.

Can we 'out-Barcelona' Ipswich?
The answer would seem to be yes, because if they were doing it all the time, they wouldn't need to highlight one passage of play in a video.
While the game is unlikely to be billed as Barca' v Barca', it could be advertised as FFP v FFP.
To quote Mick McCarthy on the BBC website, - "We're adhering to Financial Fair Play. I'm not sure everyone else is. In fact I'm **** sure not everybody else is."
Ipswich have only invested in free transfer and loan signings this season in an attempt to balance the books, but McCarthy is clearly getting the best out of the team he has assembled.
The previous encounter between the two sides saw an Albion 'attack' (without Leo), produce zero shots on goal.
I anticipate an improvement on that statistic tomorrow.

as ipswich are down to the quick they will need to win. that should play into our hands and i see a comfortable win 2-3 nil

Ha Ha.

My son had some fun sending this clip to his BHA supporting friends at Longhill, but you are spot on gordongull; we certainly aren't doing it all the time.

Hoping for a great game tomorrow. I expect you to win, but would love it if we score first to get the away end rocking!

We're not ready, but the next best thing would be to see the Seagulls in the PL next season.

Best wishes, from a Brighton based Tractor Boy :-)

Thanks for that purplealien. Consecutive wins have made us a little more optimistic. A win for you tomorrow could put you back in contention, so very much a six-pointer. Looking at recent results higher up the table, anything is possible. A point is not going to be much use to either side, so should be an open game with both teams going for the win.
Good luck for a top seven finish :)

MacCarthy seems wedded to a mantra of home win, away draw. Most ITFC fans are expecting a defensive hard working set up tomorrow with our flair players (such as they are) on the bench.

If I'm right, look out for Frank Nouble up front (our very own Emile Heskey), and Jay (can't pass forwards) Tabb - both of which will run around to little effect all afternoon. Although Nouble does have a specialty of nicking the ball off the opposition goal keeper which can be amusing at times.

Still, we have had our moments this season, and we do usually score one - lately it's been mostly from set pieces. Look out for Cresswell corners and free kicks.

I've been to the Amex a few times this season, and I like your style better than our current style. I think you are better than most of you think you are!

We've struggled on your wide pitch in the past. If I were Oscar I'd try Lua Lua early. Right back is our vulnerable spot (Chambers is a CM really).

Hope I'm wrong and MacCarthy goes for it tomorrow. We'll see........

If I remember rightly, the majority of Tractor Boys were as surprised as anyone about it. There were also apologies from bemused Ipswich supporters.

impose our game gull - that banner was the subject of much discussion on the ITFC forums.

I'm sure the few individuals responsible thought it was hilarious at the time, but I can assure you the majority didn't. I for one have been to games at the Goldstone and Withdean, so I know what you've been through.
