There was not much reason to cheer for Albion today.

The Seagulls lost 2-0 at home to Ipswich while play-off rivals won.

But there must have been someone who caught your eye.

Bruno was the sponsors’ choice as Seagulls’ man of the match and he did some good work down the right.

Keith Andrews and Jesse Lingard were involved in some of their brighter moments going forward.

We have also thrown in Kazenga LuaLua, who was bright but you may feel did not play long enough for MoM honours.

So who do you think was the pick of the Seagulls on what was, admittedly, a bad day?

Bruno looked like he was looking for a red card today. Stephen Ward my choice for another solid display. If Lingard's play matched his arrogance he would be a winner. Fluffed a really good chance when clean through and then made far too many clumsy challenges. I would not give him a game if Hoskins and CMS regain match fitness, but then we probably have to play him as part of the deal with Man U.

I see Obika got a full game for Charlton against Burnley for whom Ashley B scored. My word, how we missed the latter's commitment today!! I wonder if he will get much game time when Burnley are promoted, as surely they will be?

Nobody was very good today. I would say Bruno or Ward. When I arrived at the match and found Stephens missing from the line up, my jaunty optimism that I posted last week immediately went. Big mistake by Oscar for me.

The bus driver for me, got me home in record time! Lol
Bruno was involved a lot but he is a defender first not an attacking midfielder! but he was our best player.
In all honesty, a pretty poor display from everyone, Ulloa would normally bury chances like he had today, why was Andrews playing and not Stevens? Where was Buckley, Dunk should have got the nod over Greer, and we need to start with 2 wide men, like others have said, LuaLua one side Buckley the other and then their defence is stretched, Ulloa up front with Lingard hovering just behind, if/when Buckley or LuaLua tire bring on Rodney or March, simple.
Still all to play for but why the f*** do we make it so hard for ourselves! here's to a win Tuesday, and please Oscar, attack, attack, attack at home next Saturday, put Cms and Hoskins on the bench and if the team don't get their finger out put these 2 on and see what happens. UTA

As soon as I saw Andrews in the starting I knew our midfield would once again be predictable and pedestrian. He is not a bad player on the ball but everything gets slowed down and easily picked off. To Be fair though, the whole team performance was off colour - lots of honest effort but no quality.

Ipswich deserved the win (lets not forget that they also had th ball in the net in the first half too. We never looked like scoring all afternoon. Oh well we move on to the next game. We are not out the race yet and must dust down and go again...

Bruno or Ward, I'd give Ward the nod, but again giving the MOM to a defender or the goalie as I would have done over many of the recent games does highlight we haven't got a lot going forward. For me it's the midfield that looks really bereft at the moment - desperately need Orlandi back and a marque signing in the summer.

I would go for Ward. Didn't really put a foot wrong all day and looked a threat going forward. As has been mentioned above Bruno very nearly got himself sent off.

As I said on here a couple of weeks ago if Lingard starts firing we'll make the play-offs. If not we'll just miss out. If he'd put that early chance away I think we'd have gone on to win the match.

Finally calmed down ,read all posts and still come to the same conclusion as soon as a saw team sheet. When Andrews plays we are poor(not that it was his worst game today ironically) We cannot to play this type of football system and expect to get any where. To defensive and when your only attacking threat is your right back you have got problem.
Think it is Gus's system that has hit the ceiling ? Not exactly working for him at Sunderland in a higher league either!
One defensive midfielder is enough and in my humble opinion they need to be able to push o too at times when we are behind in a game.
Yes we are in touch ,but are we really good enough...honestly folks. ??
I fear not and have all season with this system and players. Not calling for management changes just that they learn to adapt the team to be more attacking especially at home.
Thought TK very shaky for him today, crowd quiet even before they scored but nothing inspirational about our play so am sure this affects fans too.
We have jettisoned players for what ever reason in the lasy two windows and replaced with poorer, sadly it shows.
Passed a fan on way out the ground who just turned and said look at all these people crying out for football locally, they got to spend some good money on players ! If Burnley can attract Barnes !! . Am not sure reckless spending always works but he had a point.
Sadly i feel another year has slipped by .

Ward for me followed by Bruno.
Two comments.
Firstly we had 65% possession and 23 shots and still didn't score.
Secondly I noticed about 2 minutes before Buckley went off when we were 2-0 down and were attacking and had nothing to lose that we had 4 defenders back when Ipswich only had one attacker forward. I am an admirer and fan of Oscar but sometimes I think his mindset is just too defensive. I think when he looks at the video he will realise that attack once we went 2-0 down would have been the best form of defence.
Let's hope we get back to winning ways on Tuesday. Bringing Stephens in for Andrews and having Hoskins on the bench would I feel be two positive moves. I really felt today that we needed to put someone up front alongside Ulloa once we went a goal down but we didn't have anyone like Hoskins on the bench to bring on.

Negative selection today. KA is too much a defender for me and as RI wasn't at his best there was little connection going forwards. DS on the bench was a strange one for me, as others say. He's more attacking and should have been on. JFC - I think he's for the future but not quite there yet - some good stuff when he did pop up but he then disappeared again. We do miss AC behind LU at the moment but our much lauded strength in depth was not really evident today. I thought that KLL coming on would spice it up but it didn't sadly. He wants to play full games and lots on here call for it but often when he does start a game he doesn't perform except in patches. Love him when he's on fire and I think if the team contest had been closer he and others would have been more inspired. From my position I thought after the second goal went in that heads dropped dramatically and for the last 15 minutes they looked a defeated side.

Still, it's just one bad game, albeit it one we needed to win, and the way things go in this league we might just go on and win our last 9 (there's my optimistic side coming back again).

Thanks for the update on Hoskins. I thought he was now fully fit even if not 100% match fit and therefore could be considered for our bench although not yet as a starter. In view of your comment no doubt we will have to wait another couple of weeks before Hoskins will be fit enough to be included in the match squad. CMS seems even further away from being ready for selection.
A comment about Lingard whom I think there are mixed feelings about. Whilst I agree he is a bit light weight and is knocked off the ball too easily he does cover a lot of ground and gets into the right positions. I feel he lacks sharpness. On another day he might have scored a hat-trick. At least two of his three best chances were on target and the third only just wide. The next 2 to 3 games he plays should demonstrate whether his signing has been worthwhile.
With the loan window closing on Thursday I hope proper consideration is given to whether we need to bring in another forward if Hoskins and CMS are not ready especially now Obita has left. I feel we also may need extra cover in defence with only three CBs. Lets hope for a more clinical performance on Tuesday and a Positive result.

Ward again for me and despite lapses of concentration - like I said in a previous post - we should nail down the back 5 for next season with contracts as they are a prize asset ( apart from Greer - who simply cannot pass and for me would be no great loss - Dunk is better ) and we would not want to lose them upon Hoskins/CMS return to action -- capitalise on what we have! Still a game in hand and Forest is the last game - and Reading are so utterly dull they must surely drop points between here and then -- still time. Same line-up as the Bolton home match for me -- need width on both sides of the field - more positive starting eleven and even though JFC is showing progression he is still too young an understudy to command an automatic first place. As for Lingard - like I said - I have seen him play up in Manchester and at least he is being given some time - hope he will repay it, he is a much talked about player up there. Myself - I look forward to Will Hoskins returning --

Myself - I look forward to Will Hoskins returning --[/p]
What pure rubbish. There have been loads of players JFK & Dunks age playing week in & week out in the prem-league.Its TK and the way we player that makes our deffence look so good.[/p]
so the stats are all wrong then? Bruno was head and shoulders above everyone else today, especially in the first half. Ward did ok too but Bruno was class at times. He often looks our most creative player too which is crazy for a right-back. I think he'd create a lot more in midfield than the trio we had today.

I don't often go along with this "too negative" opinion that goes around on here. However, a midfield trio of Ince, Andrews and JFC just doesn't have enough creative spark. JFC had one of his better games I thought but we really missed the guile of Orlandi or Lopez.

I'm ok with Ince and Andrews playing but with both of those we can afford to have a very attacking third midfielder. Orlandi ideally but Lopez, March or Bruno could also do it.

Alternatively, Ince holding, Stephens/JFC covering lots of ground and a creative player would also work.

As someone mentioned, we actually had more chances than we have had against other teams. Ulloa, normally deadly with his head, narrowly missed 2 or 3 times.

No need to panic, just a bad day at the office. As Conelli98 mentioned, the fans were poor today. Got the performance we deserved, to be honest!

Sounds like Warnock might be heading to Forest. That might give them a kick up the backside! Ipswich will feel they are back involved again now but I don't see them sneaking in. All to play for!
