Crawley have signed Albion winger Jeffrey Monakana on a month’s loan.

The 20-year-old will go straight into the Crawley squad for the trip to his former club Preston on Saturday.

Monakana made 49 appearances for the Lilywhites before joining the Seagulls in January for an undisclosed fee.

The former Arsenal trainee is the second new face at Crawley in the space of a few hours following the arrival of winger Gwion Edwards from Swansea City.

He has yet to make a first team appearance for Albion but has been a regular member of the development squad.

Manager John Gregory said: “Jeffrey is highly rated by Brighton and he has plenty of experience of League One already.

“He’s strong, quick and can deliver a good ball from wide areas and I’m really hoping he can flourish with us over the next month. With eight games during that time he will certainly get the opportunity to impress.”

Monakana added: “Hopefully I can bring something to the team. I like to take on defenders and get the ball into the box and hopefully score a few goals as well. I'm looking forward to the next month."

Good move. Give me hell, Jeff, then return a more experienced head ready for next season.

I wonder if there are any last-minute surprises on loan the window deadline day today?

Captain rather disappointingly I can't see BHA acquiring anybody today although I think we should.
Like others I am concerned that without a fit Orlandi we haven't really got any midfielder who can make that decisive pass - not helped by Conway not returning.. As we all saw on Tuesday against Wednesday we are lightweight up front if Ulloa is out. Having only 3 CBs is also less than ideal.
The reality is we haven't replaced Bridcutt, El-Abd and Barnes. Whilst we have two useful Defensive midfielders in Ince and Andrews we have needed a creative attacking midfielder IMO all season. But Barnes departure and the non signing of Grabban or another such striker is what I believe will be the difference between our getting into the play-offs and just missing out. I hope I am proved wrong.
Taking a long term view not getting to the Premier league this season might prove to be a blessing although the extra revenue generated from involvement in the play-offs would be beneficial financially.
By husbanding our resources now Oscar will be better able to remodel the squad so that it is better able to not only potentially get to the Premier League but stay there when we do. One is only too aware that with the exception of Ward (who is only on Loan) that our back 5 aren't getting any younger.
Pleased to see that the club is looking to the future by letting Monakana out on Loan to get some more experience at League One level. At least it demonstrates some activity.
Hoping for a few goals and a positive result on Saturday and hoping the likes of Ulloa and Stephens are over their illnesses.

I like this loan deal for a couple of reasons, the first of which is that the lad will get to play competitive football and that must help him to develope and us get a better idea of how good, or not, he is. The second is that Monakana's absense will create space in our DS for another lad to show what he can do.
I do wonder why they have only taken him on loan for a month, the costs, if any, can't be high and if he proves to be usefull they might regret that decision.

Wonderful signing from PNE,for an ' undisclosed fee' ?
Unfortunately nowhere near getting into our first team squad, despite this item telling us how good he is.
However, if he gets a few match appearances in with Crawley, it can only do hs confidence good.
