Albion grab point in six-goal thriller

The Argus: David Rodriguez opens the scoring (photos Simon Dack) David Rodriguez opens the scoring (photos Simon Dack)

Albion came from behind twice to grab a thrilling 3-3 draw at Blackburn tonight.

They had a dream start when David Rodriguez scored his first goal in English football on 17 minutes.

The Spanish striker ran on to Jesse Lingard’s pass to fire low past Paul Robinson.

Jordan Rhodes levelled by touching home Tom Cairney’s free-kick.

And Rovers led at the break after Cairney produced a super finish from Tommy Spurr’s low cross.

Gordon Greer’s near post finish on 70 minutes dragged Albion level and set up a thrilling finale.

Rhodes rolled home an 87th minute penalty after being pushed by Matt Upson.

But sub Dale Stephens replied a minute later with a superb header from a fine cross by the lively Lingard.

Bruno was booked in the second half and will now be banned for two games.

I'd have taken a point (and 3 goals) at the start of the night!! All those clean sheets and brilliant defence for most of the season and our GD is the same as Middlesbrough. Rhodes? Very good isn't he!!

Last 7 goals we've let in all shoddy - unforced errors and mishaps. Simply imploded on doing the basics in defence. The top top teams just boot it out sometimes when a situation is dangerous - the top defenders in the world - some of ours could learn from that currently - business end and squeaky bum end of the season that's going to be a route to take on occasion. Especially as Lingard has a bit of pace.

3 goal scorers. Great to have Stephens back - he's been close to goals on several occasions and has more to come.

At Barnsley we need to show we want it more than them, especially in the 2nd half of tonight's game - passion. After that, off the Leicester who will probably guarantee promotion in that match should they beat us. Which could play to our hands too of course!!

Good subs tonight, if a little late. Most of the season Oscar has been positive with them and gone for the win/ goals, to be fair - just so often ten mins late but not as late as GP used to be!!

UTA x 3!!

I'd be amazed if Stephens doesn't start on Saturday (if fit and well, obv).

Losing Bruno is a problem though, if only because it leaves us with one right back. If Calde gets injured we'll have to have Spanish Dave there, but that's all ifs buts and maybes!

That's pretty much it Albion in Staffs - fine line between success and failure, - it's all about the goals (obviously) - without that equaliser & a 4th defeat the fans would have slaughtered the team. If March's last minute chance had gone in we would have been celebrating 4 goals and a new dawn of attacking football.

Tbh listening on the radio we were pretty poor, BUT 3 goals! Sounded like Lingard was lively again and March made quite a bit of difference (but why so late - how often do we throw our attacking wingers on in a last ditch effort to save a game?) (Real Madrid don't wait 60 minutes to play Ronaldo and Bale and I'm sure they aren't great at defending or "putting shifts in" as they say).

I think (and hope) Oscar will eventually realise that the cream of his squad will rise to the top and some of the current crop are entering their last half dozen games for the albion.

Hope this will be a real confidence boost for the boys. Too much negativity and paranoia floating around recently. It just goes to show we DO know how to score, and now add to the equation that we DO know how to play good, solid football, and we certainly DO know how to defend, then surely that adds up to success. Maybe not this season (although the playoffs would be fun) but maybe next after a period of taking stock and thoughtful reflection. Just a bit of fine tuning and we'll be off! Ha! There'll be no stopping us!

We scored three goals, we got a point and we are still in the playoff hunt, not a bad day for the squad and club as a whole.

I noticed the comment Conway made about the fact that his child was born in Brighton, but family are up north and how much easier it is for the extended family to visit, I think we just found out why Conway didn't sign for us.

Lingard seems to be helping our cause, but in a match where we score three, it seems a tad odd that both he and Ulloa were not on the score sheet.

Having three goals scored against us is worrying, more so when added to our other recent results, are you guys who get to see the matches noticing a common thread as to why all of a sudden our back five is suffering?

I was at the game, first 25 we were all over them. Defensive errors let them back into the game and they took full advantage. Second half we never got going until the last 15 - 20 mins. Ince had an off day and Bruno was so far out of position we left huge gaps at the back. It was a game with two very poor defensive displays hence the 6 goals! Hard to give anyone the MotM as there was not really a stand out performance. Lua Lua made a positive impact again and created real problems for Blackburns defence. The most positive thing was that we never gave up and could of nicked it at the end when March dragged a shot wide. Overall we deserved a point and it was an entertaining evening!! UTA!!

UTA!!
Perhaps Blackburn were worried about LU and JL so much that they left gaps for the likes of DR to drift in to the box? The more we have scoring the better I reckon. Nice to see GG getting on the score sheet as well but .......... three goals against - poor defending (wasn't there tonight) has been prevalant last few games. I'm not a particular GG fan nor a big 'knocker' either (he's an international after all) but his errors seemed to lead directly to both goals on Saturday. On BBC Radio Sussex the penalty tonight seemed to be put down to a shove on Rhodes by GG. Is there a common thread? I'd say so. But it's a back four, not just GG and I think sometimes he's left exposed due to his lack of pace when the wing backs push forward, which they should do during the game. So the two CBs need enough pace to cover ground when Bruno or SW do go forward. MU doesn't get caught out oftyen, if at all but GG does. So should LD be given more time on the front line or can we not do without GG as captain? OG it's over to you.......

Can you imagine how the Amex would rock us scoring 3?
What a difference it would make as they are always saying the crowd are the 12th man!

UTA x 3!!
thought the timing of the subs was about right
Stephens on at half time
March 63mins meant he had 1/2 hour
lualua 75mins maybe slightly late.
But at least 15mins does give time to make an impact

gordon gull -
yes agree, what has happened should always take precedence - what could have happened is pure conjecture! However it is what the managers refer to all the time - what might have been (usually if we had scored, or the other team hadn't!)

On present form we did well to take a point however the teams above us look more likely to go up so Oscar give our home supporters a treat take the match to our opponents from the first whistle, make it fast and flowing, goals should follow.
