England star Matt Prior has committed his future to Sussex after signing a new two-year contract.

The deal will keep the wicketkeeper – whose old contract ran out during the winter - at Hove until at least the end of the 2015 season.

The 32-year-old said: “I'm absolutely delighted to sign another contract for Sussex. It is an honour to continue to be part of the club where I have spent my professional career and Hove is a very special place to me.

“I am very much looking forward to helping Sussex compete for trophies again this season and I hope to be a part of future success, something I know that everyone connected with the club works very hard for.”

Prior made his first class debut for Sussex back in 2001 after coming through the county’s academy.

The former Brighton College pupil went on to help Sussex win the County Championship three times in 2003, 2006 and 2007 as well as lifting the C&G Trophy and Twenty20 Cup.

He has scored more than 7,500 first runs for Sussex, including 18 centuries, in 144 matches as well as playing 75 Tests for England.

Sussex coach Mark Robinson said: “We’re really delighted to have Matt confirmed for the next two summers. He not only brings an incredible playing talent but a lot of experience with him every time he wears the Sussex Martlets.”

well n current form unlikely to get big contract elsewhere. Hope be gives a lot more Sussex tan his performances in recent season. Welcome back. but you will have to work hard to take the gloves off Brown. Hodd better than either of you. Try and get your England place back with a central contract and Sussex can save some money,
All to do

Interesting. Prior was England player of the year just 12 months ago. Granted he had a bad season but that drop in form was probably down to the pressures of being made Vice Captain of the Test team.

Hodd may be slightly tidier with the gloves (although Prior is still an excellent - if not natural - keeper), but Prior's ability with the bat makes him comfortably the better player overall.

Matt's experience will be crucial to bringing the youngsters through whether as a batsmen or keeper. I don't think you can ever under estimate the presence of great international sportsman in the dressing room regardless of current form. Good to have you on board Matt.
