Sussex start without Jordan

The Argus: Chris Jordan Chris Jordan

Sussex will be without star bowler Chris Jordan as they bid to get their County Championship campaign off to a flying start tomorrow.

England have asked for Jordan to be rested for the clash with Middlesex at Hove after he returned from playing in the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Jordan also toured Australia and the West Indies during the winter but Sussex hope he will be made available for their second match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

It means Sussex will be without three key players for their opening division one match with vice-captain Chris Nash and England all-rounder Luke Wright sidelined by injury.

Jordan’s absence means all-rounder Steffan Piolet is likely to make his Championship debut for Sussex although left-arm seamer Lewis Hatchett is another option.

Coach Mark Robinson has also confirmed that Matt Prior will play as a specialist batsman as he manages a long-standing Achilles injury so Ben Brown will keep wicket.

The ECB have no real interest in the fortunes of County Cricket clubs, why does he need resting,if he wants to play he should and the paying public want to see our best team out there.

As far as I can see, so far this year Jordan has played 6 ODIs in which he's bowled 56 overs and batted for 22 balls and also played 6 T20 Internationals in which he's bowled 18.2 overs and batted for 55 balls. So in 3 complete months he's played 12 days of cricket, bowled a total of 74.2 overs and batted for 77 balls. And he needs a rest???? I wouldn't mind doing that miniscule amount of work over 3 months and then be told I needed a rest. Many players do more than that in 2 Championship matches.

Mushy used to bowl more than that in one match and he didn't need a rest!

As for tomorrow's line up it should be Wells, Joyce, Yardy, Prior, Machan, Zaidi, Brown, Piolet, Anyon, Magoffin, Hatchett

Without Jordan we need five bowlers if we are to bowl Middlesex out twice.

On what basis should Yardy be in the team ?
Scores of 7 & 0 in 2 innings against Loughborough hardly merits a place in the team.

Largely agree with Zamora25's team but I wonder if RHB will play rather than Piolet. I agree that ideally we could do with 5 front-line bowlers but I'm not sure that Piolet has done anything either at Warwicks or against the students last week to suggest he will get wickets in Division 1 of the Championship.

I remember Fratsom Rovers aka Westlain old boys from many years ago!!
