Very disappointed with yesterday’s result, but to be fair, I am not sure how many of us expected us to win at Oakwell against a poor Barnsley side, to pick up one point in 6 against Barnsley and 1 so far against Yeovil is very poor, these 2 sides are not championship level. We are not ready for the premiership and frankly I hope we don’t go up this year because we are a million miles away from what is required, we were without doubt a better team last year

I have been an avid fan of Oscar and I am willing to give him next season to pay back the confidence we are showing in him, however there are several important issues which 100% need looking at.

I am extremely nervous about the summer, our player recruitment has been a joke, our use of loan signings even worse and the players who have come in this season are not signings which will challenge at the top end, I hate to use the Poyet reign, but he signed, Bridcutt, Tomas, Bridge, Ulloa, Orlandi, Lua Lua, Buckley, etc etc players who are top championship players, a few of these have already left and hand on heart I can see Tomas, Buckley, Ulloa, Lua Lua all leaving in the summer, that’s not me being negative, thats just the way I see it. Ward and Andrews have been steady, Stephens hopefully will prove to be a good signing, but our use of the loan system with certain players has been shocking, both for and against, I think Kemy Agustein sums up our transfer policy, what on earth is going on, just tell us the truth. As I write this I feel quite sick with what might happen.

The other problem is Nathan Jones, I am sure he has had too much to do with transfers, we need top quality players Nathan, not rubbish, comes out with the same old dribble after every game, I cannot believe the players are inspired by him, Oscar needs a number 2 who players look up to, I have no confidence in Jones at all.

I look at our club, we have a fantastic stadium, a youth system which is frankly the envy of most clubs, we have a chairman who loves the club, we have a solid financial infrastructure where we won’t fall foul of FFP, we live in a beautiful city, training facilities which will be out of this world, I am scared that we are not going to use these to our benefit and just drift into mid table for a few years, let’s not become a beautiful beach which nobody ever uses, let’s make the most of the fantastic chance we have.

Oscar in my book you have next season, no excuses, you have a full preseason, sign your own players, use your own contacts, get rid of Corporal Jones, make us proud, we can still be solid but we need more than 1 goal a game, we need a plan B as our plan A rarely works at the moment, you have a chance to become a BHA legend don’t waste it

Very good post Uckfield Seagull,
I think we should back Oscar and the board for the long term and not keep **** (as others seem to make a habit of) about our failings short term. It will be ok in the end but not I fear for another year or two and thats something the board should be getting over to us instead of this awful silence

Mr. Uckfield, I have to think that the club does have a football and a business plan and that it is going about seeing them both come to fruition. We as fans will always want more, some will demand more and consider anything less than promotion now as a failure, that 's football.

Any business that tries to grow too quickly faces the possibility of over extending it's self but I don't see Brighton doing that. The level and pace of investment in the club has been well handled and the areas where we have spent, would suggest that the club is planning ahead rather than just for today.

When the day comes that all the infrastructure of the club is in place, and that would inlcude the proposed hotel, parking facility and the student accomodation block, the lcub will be in a position to focus 100% on the playing staff.
We hear a lot about how players look to secure their financial futures with longer and better contracts, well the club has to also consider it's financial security. When we eventualy step up to the top flight our expenditures will be huge compared to those of today, and we must be in a position as a club to be able to meet those financial demands. Over spending now will rob us of money to spend tomorrow, every million we cut from our losses now can be spent when we go up, even if that day doesn't come for a couple of more years.

There will never be a day when we can't hold our own comfortably in the Champ Div, we will always make the top eight or ten places, and maybe flirt with the top six, and until the club is ready to spend at a level to bring in players good enough for a top two spot, we the fans just have to accept that.

The lengthy post above voices many of the fears many of us have particularly in terms of transfer policy. Your point on Jones is also well made. You do wish OG demonstrated more in the way of an assertive presence.

Poyet was a magnet for attracting players to the club, last summer largely through his nonsense behaviour, we were three steps behind everyone and signings were generally disappointing. Having said that some of Poyet's signings to start with were questionable, who can forget Chris Holroyd and Ryan Harley!! To an extent you do wonder why he splashed the cash on CMS, he never got him to play the way he does best. Dobbie, what a cracking signing he was!

Early activity before the season end to secure some of the players already with us but out of contract or on loan, I am thinking Calderon, Orlandi, Ward and we all hope Kuscak will go some way to restoring my confidence.

Bruno, Upson Greer good for one more season.............m
mm. The thing is you sign a shed load of players it costs a fortune even if they come on "free" transfer and they all have to settle in and integrate which isn't that simple. We really should have got Conway, either he got better terms with Blackburn which we should have matched or simply he wanted to live up North.

Conway made it very clear that he chose to live up north closer to family.
