Macca: 'Better to play Leicester than Barnsley'

Craig Mackail-Smith reckons a trip to promoted Leicester will suit Albion better than a scrap at Barnsley as they bid to stretch their unbeaten record against the top three in the Championship.

The Seagulls are desperate for a result in the East Midlands tonight to revive their challenge for the play-offs after Saturday's 0-0 draw at Barnsley extended their winless sequence to five games.

Mackail-Smith, who returned from 13 months out injured as a late substitute in South Yorkshire, told The Argus: "I think it was harder going there, because they were desperate, so they were going to just kick it, head it, put tackles in.

"The pitch wasn't in great condition, so it was hard for us to play the game we wanted to play.

"Leicester will come out more at us. We'll have a nice pitch to play on and I think that will suit us a lot better. They will come out and attack us, which might leave spaces for our attacking players to get in."

Totally agree. Our record is good against the top teams and I feel more confident playing Leicester than say a bottom 3 team. Hopefully they will still be a little hung over although I don't hold out much hope of that. But psychologically they may well not be as motivated now as if this was a must win game. UTA

Wonder if he'll still be saying that at about 2145 tonight??

Perhaps Saturday's performance v Charlton will be more defining especially after the last two home results. At least we have Easter Monday to look forward to for Blackpool's annual 6-1 thrashing. Shame they won't have Dean Hammond this year to get their goal !!!

Good article in the Star yesterday were CMS is quoted as saying

"It's going to be tough on Tuesday with Leicester celebrating clinching promotion. We have got to do a professional job and try and get three points.
"I think the pressure is off them and they will be able to enjoy the moment. It's going to be a tough game because I think there will be a party atmosphere.
"They will want to get another win in front of their home fans but we've got to go and be professional because our objective is to get into the play-offs."

A repeat of our brilliant home performance and result against Leicester will go down a treat

I guess it could happen, interesting to note that the article states that Oscar's preferred style of play, ball retention and passing, is what woud make him a good candidate.

We can but hope, but in all honesty, with the promotion already guaranteed there will be no nerves, no pressure and they can go out and really try and put on a show for the fans. I'm not a pessimist by nature, but I'm not expecting out of tonight. I hope I'm wrong.
