First-half double helps Albion into top six

The Argus: Jesse Lingard opens the scoring (photos Simon Dack) Jesse Lingard opens the scoring (photos Simon Dack)

Jesse Lingard and Leo Ulloa struck again as Albion moved into the top six today.

The strikers, both of whom netted at Leicester in midweek, were on target in the first half today to set up a 3-0 win over Charlton at the Amex.

Jake Forster-Caskey added a late third on a terrific, upbeat afternoon for the Seagulls.

Victory sent Albion into sixth place pending Reading’s home game against Leicester on Monday.

Lingard produced a classy 11th-minute finish after Kazenga LuaLua had nicked the ball off Diego Poyet.

Ulloa added a thumping right-foot finish on 43 minutes as Charlton claimed offside.

That goal was particularly galling for the Addicks, coming just a minute after Reza Ghoochannejhad’s effort hit the Albion bar after deflecting off the impressive Gordon Greer.

Albion saw it through comfortably in the second period and should have extended their margin.

Lingard fired over when clean through and sub Forster-Caskey curled a free-kick inches wide.

Forster-Caskey rounded things off with a crisp finish in added time.

Running into form at precisely the right time. Shame about Ipswich's late winner, and we need Leics to do us a favour on Monday, but it's a good time to be an Albion fan despite all the complaints that seem to be flying around!

A good three points today but the match also throws up a couple of questions.

Was the removal of Lua Lua tacticle or was he finding it ard to play two back to back 90 minutes games?
2-0 up in a match that it seems were dominated all day but CMS doesn't get any game time. Would it not have been good for him to come on, even if only for 20/25 minutes, maybe pul Ulloa or Lingard off?

I don't as these questions by way of complaining, just curious.

So, 42 games played, BHA only 1 point behind last seasons tally at this point, so who did better with what they had available, Oscar or Poyet?

On balance, Oscar, had a late preperation start from the off, had to deal with a club in summer turmoil, and didn't have CMS from day one Then follows a terrible run of injuries including the long lay off of Ulloa, missing Orlandi, Buckley in and out, Crofts getting crocked, Bridcutt being sold, stiffening financial fair play restrictions, and had to adapt to his first season in England, and with 4 games remaining could still out do last seasons performance total points ?

Not bad thus far !

LuaLua's substitution was a bit of both, he looked a tad tired and was on a yellow, but with him on the field it causes the opposition to be afraid, when Jfc came on it narrowed our play a bit but game was won by then.
Cms got a rapturous cheer when he appeared warming up and will surely get a run out at Huddersfield, Lingard is starting to look the part, he was all over the place looking to link up with everyone, but he will be gutted at the one he missed! Bruno? Very disappointed that he was picked in front of Caldi, he got forward a few times but god he has your heart in your mouth when he gets it wrong, a simple pass back turned into a corner for them at one point.
I think we have the depth to make it through the next couple of weeks and it's ours to lose now. 10 goals in 3 games as well! 10 more please before the end of the season and we will be in the play offs. UTA

I wonder why my two, what seem to me to be perfectly understandable questions, get a minus 4 thumbs down.

I would have liked to see CMS get some time on the pitch with either Lingard or Ulloa, we just might need CMS in the coming matches and any amount of playing time he can get will help to sharpen him up.
I am hoping that pulling Kaz off was tactical re yellow card but if he was also running out of puff, that concerns me a little.

Ok more thumbs down on their way.

It may be more the yellow card that was more of the concern than his energy levels, but there's no point getting a player to play two full games in just a few days when he hasn't previously completed a 90 minute match in ages.

As for the thumbs down, some people will do that for certain other people withoutwithout even having read what they write. I got several the other week for having the temerity to ask who the MoM was!

Again, the difference was starting with KLL and March which meant in the first half we were looking to pass the ball forward with positive runs from Lingard. Look a much better and positive team. Second half was a bit disappointing and they tended to look to pass the ball back rather than attack. Agree with others that CMS should have come on for about 15 minutes as he needs some pitch time. But another great three points. LCFC will do us a favour and confident that they will thump Reading on Monday. Confident we can make the play offs.

He looked decidedly unhappy as he was walking off and not even a standing ovation or pat on the head from Nathan 'you haven't been gone long enough' Jones could cheer him up!

Great result again, well done lads! We have got the momentum going for us no due, no doubt to OG sticking with the quick players. I am beginning to think that we could make the playoffs! Still someway to go though.

No complaints about the result although the second half was played out in our own half again, instead of going for the jugular. KLL substitution did not make sense and I was by the dugout and he avoided OG and not happy at all, think he will leave in the summer. In my view March should have come off. Also feel sorry for Calderon he really should have kept his place.
Good result but do feel we need to up the tempo in last third.

I like the way that Jesse,Kaz & Solly can interchange positions. Their defence had to work hard today. Also thought Leo had a very good game.

Kaz was beginning to tire and was on a yellow, so a good substitution

Superb goal by JFC at the end, I dedicate that to all the early leavers(10,000+) who missed it.

u are joking about the tempo i assume? blimy that was about as easy a win as you will see anywhere due to a quick tempo in the 1st half which killed charlton off kll had run himself into the ground and was rightly subbed imho

Much better performance. Lua Lua played really well. We lost our shape a bit when he was subbed but he`s not used to starting games. However, I really think quite a few will go in the summer, Kuzsac included. Therefore it`s vital that whoever we bring in is an improvement to the squad as a whole. I`m not even sure Garcia will stay to be honest. I`d be expecting offers for Buckley, Kusack and Ulloa so basically we`ll be looking for a good quality goalie, a creative midfielder plus one or two more, a good striker ( 2 if Ulloa did go ), a central defender and a full back. Crofts, CSM and Hoskins will be back next season so if we think about we could build a really good squad for next season. A few will have to go though to make a general all round improvement. We need more depth.

Yes, Major, but what concerns me is all this talk of 'pulling players off'.
Surely, that is a private matter and not a subject to discuss on Brighton forum? ;-)

He is not our number two, very upsetting.
How on earth would "YOU" know who "OUR" 1st, 2nd, 3rd,or even 4th choice keeper is? stick to your own site even you must know where Speroni stands in the pecking order at Selhurst.
