Bright start was key, says Greer

The Argus: Gordon Greer tangles with Charlton striker Marvin Sordell Gordon Greer tangles with Charlton striker Marvin Sordell

Gordon Greer hailed Albion’s attacking players after victory today.

The skipper reckoned a bright start was key to the 3-0 defeat of Charlton.

Albion are on a high after today’s success and Tuesday's 4-1 win at Leicester.

Greer said: “It was a big game for us after the result on Tuesday night so the boys were right up for it and I thought we were excellent today.

“We had had a few disappointing results going into Tuesday’s game but that was a great win and we’ve continued the form today. It was a brilliant win for us.”

He said of the Seagulls’ bright start: “We always try to do that to teams and sometimes it doesn’t work for us. Today it worked great.

“I thought the attacking players were outstanding for us.”

Jesse Lingard made the important early breakthrough after being released by Kazenga LuaLua.

Greer added: “Kaz has done great. He worked their midfielder and won te ball back and Jesse has got so much quality.

“It was a great finish and it set us on our way.”

All in all is was a very competent performance today. We appeared to be much more up for it as GG says from the start. Quite honestly the opposition didn't have much to offer-one felt they would never score. I'm not discrediting the Albion performance they just didn't allow them ....so all credit to Oscars boy's.
Regarding the substitution taking Kaz off appeared quite strange-but hey ho what a result JFC scored a very good goal!

Well, here we go
Not a masterclass but very much in control in all areas
Jesse has found confidence,Leo is getting in good positions,Solly working around the two strikers cleverly and of course Kaz who is at the moment skinning full backs for fun
Great performance from GG(mom) although I thought Ward was up there too
These last two games have been a bit different as the players seem to be really enjoying themselves and confident
We need more goals though as i can see goal difference being worth a point at the close
Happy day

Good win and great to see the youngsters, March, Lingard, Lua Lua, JFC contributing so much. I also hope Andrew's critics appreciate his contribution today. He had an excellent game.
In truth The Addicks offered very little and I thought we could have pushed on and scored 4 or 5, which would have been important at the end of the day as GD could well decide the final play-off place.
It's a win and now we go to a somewhat out of form Huddersfield who had both their centre halves sent off today.
I hope we have the same positive attacking approach against them and not revert back to the Barnsley approach.
No reason why we cant win our remaining matches with the correct approach.

Kaz mom for me today. First half he seemed to be playing in the centre more and was penetrating straight at the D and scaring defenders all round. They just back off from him or bring him down. Or three of them have to deal with him which creates space in other areas. Brilliant.
Leo's goal was that of a man who just loves whacking it in the net. Oof! Get in there! No messin.
Lingards goal was excellently taken. Outside of the boot a la Orlandi last season.
All in all good stuff. Reckon we must have had 80% possession in the first half and Charlton never reall looked like scoring except for that one freak chance that hit the bar. Casper was stranded. What has happened to big Tommy?

Ok so Leicester put to the sword and now, what might have been seen as a tricky fixture against Charlton, also delivered three points, should we expect anything less from out mach against Huddersfield?
As or if the winning run continues what will that mean to some of our players once the season is over. Promotion changes just about everything but what if we don't make it, are some of our players doing enough, 'now,' to get a new contract, where as a few weeks ago, they might have looked like players that might have been let go.

We have heard, what I consider to be a silly rumour, that Oscar might even go, if that rumour has any value at all would our recent, and hopefully continued, run and style of winning give Oscar cause to think twice before going to Swansea or any club.

Huddersfield away, followed by Blackpool and Yoevil at the Amex, going as we are will we not be looking for nine further points, will all the important decisions be left to the result of our match against Forest, I do hope that isn't the case, be they decisions made by the players or management.

Taking LuaLua off after about 64 minutes might have been a prudent move for two reasons.
Firstly with Buckley injured we can I'll afford LuaLua with his suspect hamstrings getting injured as well. Since we were leading 2-0 why take the risk.
Secondly LuaLua had been booked and why risk him picking up a second. A negative thought I know but LuaLua does tend to make things happen and we need him for the next few matches.
I have to say I was slightly surprised that CMS wasn't given a few (more) minutes playing time rather than Rodriguez at the end of the game.
I like the way we seem to be playing at the moment with LuaLua, Lingard who I thought was excellent today and March all playing just behind and supporting Ulloa. I just hope Oscar perseveres with this strategy. UTA.

Much, much better - the sort of football (with passion, intensity and commitment) that we expect to see each week and that, for me, I'd pay good money to see every week.

I can understand the slightly less intense second half as OG probably though the game was won but Charlton enjoyed a purple patch and a goal from them would have made a much more nervy finish. Gladly, this didn't happen and we thoroughly deserved the win and the three points.

With the game won though I would have loved to have seen CMS given a run out at the Amex as I'm sure most of the 28,000 fans would have. Just a shame that OG didn't give us that.

Another performance like that at Huddersfield and at home on Easter Monday and I'll be a happy bunny.

Do not agree tug
Leo was still the only striker
Jesse was more of an attacking midfielder than a 2nd striker.
Albeit an advanced midfielder
Also there was a lot of interchange of positions between Kaz & Jesse and to a lesser extent Solly.
When Crofts was fit he played more advanced than our other midfielders.
So the real change in the last 2 games has been by playing the 3 together it has given more support to Leo

What is it with this site ,Solly and Kaz ARE wingers ,Leo and Jesse ARE strikers ,whether one is playing slightly behind the other or not is academic ,they are still 2 strikers ,and as everyone knows Kaz and Solly do cover and change from time to time ,it keeps them on the backfoot and varies our options ,the same as Ini and Bruno will push forward ,that doesn`t make them wingers ,they are still defenders !. The FACT is we had 2 wingers and 2 strikers on the pitch at the same time and for the most part in their natural positions . END OF.

Give me strength ,yes Solly played part of the game in a more central role ,and Bruno did his usual pushing up the right, and Solly may well end up being used more centrally in the future ,but my point ,which for some reason is continuously being missed ,is that wherever Solly played ,we ultimately started with 2 wingers (of which Solly is one) and 2 strikers !!!!!. It wouldnt matter if Solly had played in goal ,he is still a winger ,and as such can change to the flanks at any time of the game ,which is what he did ,how hard can it be to understand this point .
