Joonas Kylmakorpi bounced back to form in the nick of time as Eastbourne preserved their perfect home record.

The Finnish star volunteered for heat 15 duties and helped skipper Cameron Woodward complete a thrilling 50-43 win over Belle Vue.

They scored a 5-1 over Aces’ powerful top two Scott Nicholls and Matej Zagar to secure maximum points for the hard-pushed Eagles.

Kylmakorpi has had a tough start to the season on new bikes but he reverted to tried and trusted machinery to great effect.

The hosts led 27-15 but Nicholls’ double-points win sparked a Belle Vue recovery.

They hit the front at 35-34 with Nicholls unbeaten in his first four races.

Timo Lahti and Lewis Blackbird enjoyed a 5-1 in heat 12 to edge Eagles back in front.

Richie Worrall’s win in heat 14 kept Aces within three points and kept alive their hopes of nicking the win with a 5-1 in the nominated race.

But Kylmakorpi raced away and Woodward held off Nicholls for second place amid jubilant scenes at Arlington.

Blackbird had another good night for Eagles, despite being beaten by Stefan Nielsen in the second reserves’ race, but Bjarne Pedersen struggled.
