Gwion Edwards hailed a special feeling after playing his part in a vital win for Crawley. The on-loan Swansea winger bagged a debut goal 11 minutes after coming on as substitute as the Reds beat Tranmere 2-0 at the Stadium.

Matt Tubbs also scored with a delightful free-kick as Crawley effectively ended any lingering fears of relegation from League One.

Edwards said: “I have been patient waiting for my chance. I’m just glad I got on the pitch, have done well and got a goal.

“It is a big achievement for me to score on my debut. It is just such a good feeling.

“When I came on I just wanted to keep the ball and not lose it so it was a bonus I scored.

“I thought it was going to hit the post but luckily it went in the net.”

Paul Connolly will discover this morning the outcome of his appeal against a Football Association charge following an incident with a fan in the defeat at Brentford last week.

The FA has submitted that “the standard punishment of a three-match ban would be clearly insufficient given the nature of the offence”.

Regardless of his punishment, the full-back is likely to miss the rest of the season with a hernia problem which ruled him out last night.
