MATT Upson is the hot favourite to be named Albion's player of the season.

Fans will decide who succeeds Liam Bridcutt for the coveted prize.

Midfielder Bridcutt scooped the award for the past two seasons but he will not be completing the hat-trick after moving to Sunderland in January.

Defenders are expected to dominate the poll this time, with Upson the leading contender.

The former England centre-half has missed only two Championship matches throughout a consistent campaign.

His main rivals are likely to be left-back Stephen Ward on loan from Wolves and goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

They have also been key members of a defence which has kept 19 clean sheets in the league.

Youngster Rohan Ince will be well supported after a breakthrough season in Bridcutt's deep-lying midfield role.

And Leo Ulloa has spearheaded Albion's promotion challenge again with 15 goals, despite the Argentinian target man missing ten weeks of the season due to injury.
