MATT Upson is the hot favourite to be named Albion's player of the season.

Fans will decide who succeeds Liam Bridcutt for the coveted prize.

Midfielder Bridcutt scooped the award for the past two seasons but he will not be completing the hat-trick after moving to Sunderland in January.

Defenders are expected to dominate the poll this time, with Upson the leading contender.

The former England centre-half has missed only two Championship matches throughout a consistent campaign.

His main rivals are likely to be left-back Stephen Ward on loan from Wolves and goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

They have also been key members of a defence which has kept 19 clean sheets in the league.

Youngster Rohan Ince will be well supported after a breakthrough season in Bridcutt's deep-lying midfield role.

And Leo Ulloa has spearheaded Albion's promotion challenge again with 15 goals, despite the Argentinian target man missing ten weeks of the season due to injury.

Fans can cast their vote by emailing media@bhafc.co.uk, putting Player of the Season in the subject field, and including their name and address.

Alternatively supporters can post their vote to: Media Department, Brighton & Hove Albion, American Express Community Stadium, Brighton BN1 9BL. Closing date for votes is midnight on Saturday. The winner will be announced at the Players’ Awards Dinner at the Amex on Tuesday April 29.

To book a table or individual places at the Awards Dinner email 1901hospitality@bhafc.co.uk or call the 1901 Club hospitality team on 01273 878282.

Funny you never hear dire straits classic "money for nothing" played at the Amex.

I guess some of the players have had it written into their contracts, thats the song being played and not the lyrics of the song, same difference i suppose.

I read an article this morning that stated all of the squad, bar Orlandi, are available for selection, Buckley, Hoskins and Upson, are apparently fit to play. If this is correct Oscar will have a bunch of options when selecting the starting eleven and the bench. I guess we will have to wait to see if the article is backed up by another source.

Afternoon Vegas! Happy Easter! I reckon we might see CMS start alongside Ulloa tomorrow. For the 15/20 mins he was on he made things happen. We need a fast start tomorrow but I know some will say patience but the longer game goes on the more nervy players get and fans then get on players back which is not a good thing. Another interesting selection will be who starts in goal. After Fridays match it wouldnt surprise me to see Casper back, this is more to do with mindset than performance of TK.
One more thing...ITS IMPORTANT THAT THE FANS PLAY THEIR PART TOMORROW, AT HUDDERSFIELD THE BEST PART OF 1400 FANS CONTINUALLY SANG FOR MOST OF THE SECOND HALF AND WE WERE THE TWELVE MAN.,IMAGINE IF AT LEAST HALF THE AMEX SANG, THEN THIS WOULD SPUR THE TEAM ON EVEN MORE. REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE DOWN TO NINE MEN V BURNLEY. BEST NOISE AT AMEX SO FAR. LETS REPEAT THAT NOISE INTENSITY TOMORROW. Im off for choccy fest now! SEAGULLS

Bridcutt rightly won our player of the year award twice, but today wearing the Sunderland shirt, he looks very ordinary, the step up is a big one. If Sunderland do get relegated, and it is lookingly that they will, I can't see that Bridders has done enough to encourage a different prem club coming for him. On the face of it buying Bridcutt might look like a bad bit of business by Poyet, but my guess is that he will sell Cattermole and in doing so recoup what they paid for Bridders, Cattermole will attract prem offers.

Something I don't understand, if a player is only going to be judged by how many prem clubs want to sign him, that would suggest that all the other players in our division, the ones that don't attract offers from the prem, are a waste of wages, can that be right?
Take it down one level, this thinking must mean that only players in Div 1 that attract offers from the Champ Div, or better, are worth their wages, and so on down the divisions. Soon three teams will get relegated from the prem, that has to mean that all those guys are crap, if they were not surely they wuld not have been relgated, but we know that isn't true.
This obsession with who is trying to buy who, as a measure of a players ability, is just plain wrong. Getting bought by a prem club, when your current status if Champ Div means almost nothing, Bridcutt was wanted and what has he done since moving up. Zaha was wanted big time and again, what has he done. There are loads of examples of players moving up only to find that they didn't make the grade, you can all the way back to Peter Ward, he didn't light any fires at the top level.

If zero prem clubs fail to make a decent offer for Ulloa does that mean he isn't good enough, but if some cheeky low offers come in for him all of a sudden he is? Ulloa hasn't as yet proven his top flight credentials so it might be that the offers are not big enough for us to say yes, after all for us he is a star, just as Bridcutt was and Zaha was for Palace.

The best chance for most, and perhaps any, of our players to show what they can do at the top level is to get promoted with Brighton because it's plain and simple that there will not be offers for them, and that includes Dunk. TK is probably the only player in our squad that has a real chance of playing at the top next season, even if we don't go up but that doesn't mean that none of the others are worth bothering with.

We have far too many prawn sandwich munchers at the Amex who don't attend away games and create no atmosphere, if we had support as good as palaces for example, we'd probably be in the automatic spots by now.

I am not quite sure that you are right on this one. TK has stated that he should be playing in the prem, his agent is working on getting him a move, and this before we even know how our season will end. I understand his desire but not his timing as to when he went public with his statement.

For me the choice has to be Matthew Upson, conducts himself well and saw him at The Amex Saturday morning doing circuit running around the pitch under supervision of medical team.Diplomatic and polite, great pedigree and destined to be a manager I believe.Really hopes he gets his recognition and we sign him for another year.
But by Freeloader's way of thinking, if a prem club don't come for him he is not good enough. Another example of how Freeloader's thinking is just plain wrong.

You think Norfolk has turned native, and is posting comments favourable to Club and players?
That would be ironic!

Wow a good football post from Vegas.Anyway Happy Easter all true Albion fans.Keep up the good work ringtone & MBTS.Don't just let Vegas & Ex-pat take over this site with their Dunk PR rubbish.
You hate Dunk for reasons unknown, we get it! Try not to take over this site with you random anti-Dunk vitriol.

Upson for POTY for me. Solid, very, very rarely makes a mistake and looks every inch the class player we always knew he would be.
Ex-pat i don't hate Dunk i just don't think his the wonderful player a few on this site claim he is ok.If he really was clubs like Hull,Fullham,Norwich

,Swansea,Villa,Palac

e,Sunderland,Southam

pton, and many more would have made bids long ago.The bit about Upson i also feel you have correct. His been outstanding for the club and fans.
You DO hate Dunk. I can't believe you're really trying to deny it.

I would have Ward in second place as, like Upson, I've never seen him have a bad game. He'll very rarely have absolute blinders but he never dips below 6-7/10.

With new guys Oscar and Jones having navigated us to within grasp of the play-offs in a leaky boat, IMHO we've given a good account of ourselves. The prize is within reach we've got to keep believing and singing!! UTA
