Sussex are weighing up whether to gamble on the fitness of England internationals Luke Wright and Matt Prior as they bid to extend their flying start to the season.

Prior is still struggling with the Achilles injury that ruled him out of the Championship victory at Edgbaston last week while Wright has not played since withdrawing from the World T20 with a side strain.

Both are in contention for the visit of Somerset on Sunday but skipper Ed Joyce said: “Matt has still got the injury so it is a case of whether he feels he can manage it and whether the physios think it could get any worse.

“He was touch and go for the Middlesex game but it shows the mark of the man that he scored a century.

“Luke has not played much cricket recently so it might be better for him to get a second team game under his belt. He is one of the best players at the club and would walk into most teams but when you've won two in a row it would be harsh to leave out guys like Rory (Hamilton-Brown) and Matt Machan.”
